Today I Just Bought Demented Shark

demented shark.png

Today I just bought Demented Shark. This Shark is a reward card for Untamed Edition, so currently we can use him in Modern Format league however soon after Rebellion is released, this dude will join his fellow untamed cards into the Wild Format.

Why did I buy Demented Shark? Well this card is not something that special, I have some pity feeling on him. He is a great addition to our Water Element especially when we want to use Melee Meta however when he was released last year, Water Element was like... all about magic. That's why I pity on him for being released too soon in a wrong era.

In general, Demented Shark is a melee supports, his special ability is Inspire. It's the same as high level Tusk the Wide from chaos legion, however for older splinterlands players Silvershield Knight from Alpha Beta edition is more appropriate head to head example.

It's always tricky to use this kind of melee-inspire cards, we can not put him on main tank position because when he dies, we lose his inspire ability. So like it or not better we put him on behind, which in general I think this card will work best during these ruleset:

  1. Melee Mayhem. During this ruleset, all melee monsters can attack from anywhere they are placed, which mean this demented Shark can attack too from backline.
  2. Super Sneak. The idea is the same as Melee Mayhem, making Demented Shark can join in attacking his opponent from backline position. However we should be more careful in this ruleset because most people tend forget that there are still range and magic attack coming straight through our front gate.
  3. Equal Opportunity. The same idea with both ruleset above, however every monsters in this ruleset will aim the lowest HP target.

HOW I SEE DEMENTED SHARK IN MY TEAM

I am playing on silver-gold league using this account and I have no intention to have high level Demented Shark for Gold League because I play in Gold mostly using a half level Silver Decks. I prefer to have all Gold Foil cards on Silver Level then playing on Gold League rather than playing on gold level cards however they are all regular foil. I love blink-blink cards you know...

ON THE BRONZE LEAGUE

Wait a minute, I just said I play on Silver and Gold why now I talk about BRONZE LEAGUE? Well the fact is that I still play on Bronze level, especially during BRAWL. Sometime I register and play in some Bronze League tournament too.

The main reason why I start aiming for Demented Shark is to have a better Bronze Melee Meta. In bronze most of the meta are basic, who hits harder, ho has higher health points, and who is faster... So having an inspire ability sometime can be a game changer one.

Pelacor Bandit and Uraeus are two monsters which I think they will work perfectly with Demented Shark. You can see, if Uraeus gets buffed up and has 3 melee damage, that numbers alone are lethal for most backline monsters in Bronze level.

This might be debatable but I see in Bronze League, Demented Shark won't work well with Deeplurker. Bringing in both of them will consume 12 mana and I think there are not many battle in Bronze League which provide enough mana for both of them, regarding both aren't filling the main tank position.

ON THE SILVER LEAGUE

On Silver League, there are two monsters that I think will work best with Demented Shark. The first one is Dhampir Infiltrator, A Dragon Element card. She has double strike ability and a sneak ability, so with a buff from inspire ability she will be able to deliver 2 x 3 damage = 6 damage to opponent backline monsters. If opponent does not have any protection for their backline, definitely she will kill one monsters per round.

The second monster that I am looking forward seeing them work together is Diemonshark. Because when sharks gather together they will sing along doo doo doo doo doo

Well honestly, I can not see Demented Shark will be a force to reckon in Silver and Gold League above, because starting on Silver League, we have River Hellondale with Inspire Ability and I think Hellondale who is a Mage, offer more versatility in many meta rather than Demented Shark who is tied with his Melee Type attack.

However still I believe there will be some battles in Silver where Demented Shark will be needed more than River Hellondale, although that kind of battle will be rarely occur.

1 BCX of DEMENTED SHARK

image.png

I bought Demented Shark Gold Foil at $2.85 or 3294 DEC. What do you think guys? Was this a good purchase or did I buy him a bit high? Personally I have no intention to level up this card onto Gold level. I know on gold level he will have that Thorn Ability which is great... however I have a hard time imagining what kind a meta he can fill into the squad.

In Gold League, many monsters get extra ability that changes the overall Meta. I can see this Demented Shark as a secret weapon or wow factor in Bronze and Silver, however in Gold... He is just so common... no special, no unique perk he can offer...

And I still can not see why I would level him up to level 5. From level 3 to level 5 is about increasing health point from 6 to 8, well it will be decisive during Nuxious Fumes ruleset, but Hey... I am very picky and stingy, you know... I have no joy paying 4x its price to get extra 2 health points only.

Do you think I should buy more on this card copies? or do you agree I should stop there on 1 BCX only? Or maybe buying this is a mistake because the opportunity to use this card is quite low...

Hey @dewabrata!

Congratulations on your purchase of the Demented Shark in Splinterlands! It's always exciting to add new cards to our collection, even if they may not be the flashiest ones. I can understand why you felt a bit sorry for the Demented Shark, being released at a time when the Water Element was more focused on magic. But hey, every card has its moment to shine!

I really enjoyed reading your analysis of how the Demented Shark can be a game-changer in the Bronze League, especially when paired with Pelacor Bandit and Uraeus. It's great to see you considering different strategies and how this card fits into the melee meta. In the Silver League, combining the Demented Shark with Dhampir Infiltrator and Diemonshark sounds promising. I appreciate your honesty about the card's limitations in the Gold League, where other cards like River Hellondale may offer more versatility.

As for your purchase, it's always a personal decision. If you're happy with your Gold Foil Demented Shark, then that's what matters! It's understandable that you may not want to level it up to Gold, considering its cost and limited benefits. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether to buy more copies of the card or not. Just remember to have fun and enjoy the game!

Best of luck in your future battles @dewabrata, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Demented Shark. Keep up the great work in #Splinterlands!

Cheers,

It's an awesome card, I only have a level 1 which I need to improve because I'm finding I'm needing it a lot more lately!

Since I have this card developped quite a bit, my card has thornes and it's a perfect fit to put at the end of my lineup to counter sneak attacks. At the same time, it gives one additional melee attack to the whole team. Nicely written post!
