Why Some People Put High Faith On Uraeus
Howdy All
Welcome back to my weekly Splinterlands post. Every week I make some Splinterlands posts, and today I share some simple thought about a card here... It is URAEUS...
Uraues was one of the first cards I knew and got recommended by a friend, who today had retired from playing Splinterlands. He was a fan of Uraeus, and at that time, I played on Silver League and I could not understand why people like him were excited about Uraeus.
Until I started to play at Gold League, and TL:DR the current format which allow us to play whatever cards' level at whatever league, allowing all players to deploy their own deck at their own level, sometime show us that Uraeus can be excell in battles although the intensity and frequency has declined a lot.
Yes it is declined, we are not seeing Uraues as often as we used to be, due to many new cards which offer some new meta. For a new comer they might wonder how strong is Uraeus anyway.
Number wise, Uraeus is not strong. Seriously he is weak, he has low health point, not a fast unit and his attack is not something that amazing. His strong point is having only 3 mana required to get him into your line up.
So undebatable, he is indeed strong in little league ruleset, because he doesn't have to compete with bigger units. However for me, his mana cap is not something that makes him dangerous. It is his poison ability with a sneak attack that make him dangerous.
Currently there are some units in modern format with a combination of opportunity ability and poison ability. It is like a sure kill approach, if the target is not dead, then they might get poisoned then die from it. However I see sneak and poison ability offers something different.
When sneak ability and poison ability combined, the unit such as Uraeus can aim their backline units and even it might not kill them due too being powerful, it could disrupt the target and might break oppponent meta due to Uraeus poison
OK, let see a battle that can explain this case..
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE
From some battles I have in my history, I think this one is the most representative one. It had only one ruleset, Holy Protection, which gave all units a divine shield ability. So all the first attack will be negated.
With this ruleset, I usually prefer to go with a focused attack line up. Whether all are sneak attackers or all units aim their main tank unit. This way I could kill them one by one rather than scatter my targets and then I lose some early momentum in the first one or two rounds.
However in this battle I got something else, I meant I saw another thread which was the Katrelba Gobson. Usually when we had a decent mana, more than 25 and less than 40, many people like to deploy Katrelba Gobson.
Katrelba Gobson had double attack with a bloodlust ability and her aimed was the backline due to her sneak ability. If this was not stopped earlier, she could grow big up getting a ridiculous stats.
There are other gladiators that could be a thread for my team such as liza fox, Whistling Damon and the other gobson, Betrol Gobson. So rather than confuse which one I might get, or I might not meet any of them, I prefer to employ Uraeus in my team.
Later on I found out my opponent came with Katrelba Gobson, this would be something as I expected but not something that guaranteed a win for me.
So let's see how this battle will proceed
- The battle started with both side buffing their team and debuffing their opponent. Their aim was to focus attacking from behind while mine was to win by building higher speed.
- They came with 8 melee damage, 2 range damage and 1 magic damage. Combined all it became 11 damage per round. This looked small however they had two units with double strike, so their actual damage was 17 damage per round.
- My team had 5 melee damage, 2 magic damage and 10 range damage. Combined all they became 17 damage per round.
- Both of us shared equal fire power, we attacked as hard as our opponent attacking us. I should be winning here because my team overall was the faster one, we should kill them first before they retaliated. However they had Katrelba Gobson there, things could go ugly here.
- Round 2 started with both side having almost the same condition with the first round. This was the effect of holy protection, it would not be easy to kill any units in this ruleset.
- However my team managed to put poisons on their tank the Grund and their backline unit Iza the fanged. With this condition I believed I had a little advantage over them.
- Both of us lost two units in this round, I guessed the effect of divine protections were depleted in the first round.
- Round 3 started with 4 vs 4 condition, looked like we are equal. However it was not like that. I should lose the second round because they took down my Ravenhood Warden.
- I say I should lose, but in fact it was still equal because my Uraeus managed to poison their Katrelba Gobson. This was the most decisive condition, it might be the key winning condition here.
- Round fourth here. It's a 3 vs 3 condition and we were still equal, or at least looked like equal. This was the point that my team started to lose..
- I lost my Uraeus on previous round, he could not withstand that Katrelba Gobson double strike. It was 3 vs 2 and my team look like going to lose.
- Their Katrelba Gobson ate my Venari Bonesmith, situation got worse for my team
- The round sixth, 2 vs 1. Technically I should lose here, their Katrelba Gobson would deliver 2x7 melee damage or equal to 14 damage which was a number that my Cursed Windeku would not able to withstand.
- However...
- Poison damage killed her first lol. It's all over for Katrelba, and my Cursed Windeku started to show his prowess
-Round seventh was the last one. Good Game
DID I GET LUCKY?
Well that is a good question, definitely it is a yes and no at the same time. The correct one is that I did not get unlucky or badluck. Having Uraeus hit several times, we could expect the target would get poisoned. That's all, it is not a luck or bad luck, just RNG.
However one thing for sure, if I did not brought Uraeus in that line up, my team would have lost badly from Katrelba Gobson. This is the point of this post, a tiny 3 mana cap unit that could turn the table around.
I do not think Uraeus is weak although individually he is. His capacity in turning the tide of the battle like this battle, from sneak ability + poison ability, is something that can be considered dangerous and put him as a strong card.

As a person who likes art I do really like some of the designs of the creatures of Sprinterlands.
I gotta look at more more of them.
