Greetings and welcome fellow splinterlands enthusiasts, this week’s Share Your Battle Challenge is all about the Grumpy Dwarf. I believe this neutral card is unique in that it is ABSOLUTE GARBO. Nevertheless I decided to give him a try.

The Lineup

After losing game after game I lost all hope in that hairy dwarf and thought to myself: “last try”. With 24 mana in the bag, no miss chance according to the battle rules and the determination to play that grumpy bastard, I created a war plan.

The strategy, similar to Nazi’s Blitzkrieg, was to penetrate the enemy’s defenses by focusing all of our damage on one card, the opponent’s tank. Since I was going to use the Grumpy Dwarf, I decided that the rest of my cards should also deal physical damage (melee and ranged). From all the starter cards, the death splinter has some of the best ranged cards. After looking at the opponent’s last 5 matches I thought it would be better to use the summoner Contessa L’ament, because in their previous battles they had a lot of ranged cards, I thought that -1 ranged damage would be most effective.

Picking a tank was a no-brainer. I decided on the Haunted Spirit because it has decent damage, a good amount of health, it can heal and all of that FOR JUST 5 MANA.

Next came the Grumpy Dwarf. I placed him second to soak some damage and to enable his reach. I was hoping that if the opponent had some monsters with the opportunity ability, the dwarf would tank some hits, giving my ranged monsters more turns to attack.

Then I placed the Creeping Ooze. Personally, one of my favourite neutral cards because of its slow and 1 mana cost. The slow is definitely very underrated, not only does it allow my cards to attack sooner, but it also makes the opponent miss more. I placed it third to soak up 1 hit, in case the opponent was going to use monsters with the snipe ability.

Finally, here comes the “heavy artillery” (just like in the Blitzkrieg). In the last 3 spots I placed my ranged attackers, the Haunted Spider, Dark Astronomer and Dark Ferryman. The spider and the astronomer were the main damage dealers, while the ferryman was placed in the back to protect from any sneak attacks. The main downside of these cards is definitely their speed, 1, 1 and 2, not only do they attack last, but they also have a high miss chance. However, since the game rules stated that all monsters would hit their targets, the miss chance was not a concern to me.

The Match

The match was an easy win because my opponent had a peculiar strategy of only picking neutrals. However, it would have been a lot closer if I hadn’t chosen Contessa L’ament as my summoner. Their snipers would have done a lot more damage and been able to take out my ranged attackers. Blitzkrieg worked just as planned, I was able to tear through their tank in two turns and finish the rest of the team without any more difficulties.

**Analysis of Grumpy Dwarf **

After giving the Grumpy Dwarf a try and playing him in plenty of battles I came up with a conclusion that he is in fact useless. The card costs a total of 4 mana and has pathetic stats (at level 1). There is no circumstance in which I would prefer this monster instead of any other. Which is probably why I have never seen it in any of my matches in the bronze and silver league.

Obviously, this is just my opinion and I might be wrong, I would love to see some examples of this Grumpy Boi actually being useful down in the comments.
