My Unforgettable Journey: Learning to Ride a Bicycle

One experience that I will never forget so easily is when I had the idea of learning to ride a bicycle for the very first time. I was just about eight years or so at the time. I have never pushed a bicycle before, talk less of riding. I can remember that whenever I see people cycling past me, either children my age or elderly ones, my curiosity usually soared.

As a child I didn't have the privilege to own a bicycle, I never had hoped or imagined riding one or even sitting on it. However, during one long holiday, the universities in my country were on strike and one of my uncles visited us in the city.
He had this bike he usually rode to school and he came with it, but it was a little bit faulty because it didn't have brakes, he was the only one that understood how to ride it without having an accident.

When he got to my house the bicycle was the first thing that caught my attention. I quickly told my uncle that I love his bicycle and I would love to learn. He told me the condition of the bike but I insist I will learn, well he agreed. So one of the days when my parents were not around we went biking. He gave me the tutorial I needed, he told me to be courageous, face front and stretch my legs and keep moving the leg and he will be at the back to assist, I agreed and started riding while he was holding the back and giving support.

The next minute I was on speed to the point I left my uncle behind and was going alone on the bike till I fell on the ground and had some wounds, hmm my uncle laughed, when I got up I was angry because he laughed at me. He told me that I need to keep learning and gain mastering before going on speed. Well I was already in love with riding the bike, I didn't give up, I keep you learning, the main challenge I had was to pedal and control face of the bicycle, that means moving the legs and been able to control the bicycle in the direction it should go at the same time. My main focus was always on the pedals, since it what make it to move, it wasn’t easy thing figuring out how to balance my leg movements to keeping the bicycle straight in moving position. I would lean my body to the right while pedaling with my left leg this was how I was going, hmmm.

I became more consistent in learning, everyday when I return from school and do my assignment, I will step out of the gate to learn riding, I became so obsessed with it till it became part of me,
and I'm proud to say I can now ride a bicycle and go on speed. Thanks to my uncle for helping out.

This my first time making a post here in this community, hope I'm welcome
