My Splinterlands Journey: What Went Wrong and What Went Well

Hi! I am a small investor of the game but I made a hundreds of percent return of investment. How did I made it? Let me then untold my splinterlands journey...

I started playing splinterlands only August of this year and my initial decision was to only invest $10 for spellbook and $100 to buy DEC. I wanted to hold it until the price go up and then sell it. But then I found the game so enjoyable which is why I ended up having 3 accounts. Having multiple accounts to farm DEC in rank battles was very effective before the nerfs were implemented.

Together with grinding, a bit of market strategizing, and luck, I made a quite good income from the game. Here are some events and my decisions that I made and what I consider wrong and well.

What Went Wrong?

  1. When I started the game, I didn't have the knowledge on the market thus resulted on having no idea when will packs and cards price go up. I reached those days where there were still packs in the in-game market which cost only $2 but I thought those prices were too high.
  2. When I started to have an interest on buying cards, I didn't have the concrete knowledge on what cards are best to buy, what ability is very effective and what deck composition to build. This lacking of game knowledge resulted to buying unnecessary cards.
  3. I saw some players pulling off great cards from packs and I was so hyped about it. This hype resulted to buying costly packs on 3rd party market, hoping for a great pull. Sadly, I didn't pulled any great cards from 6 untamed packs I bought. No gold, no legendary.

What Went Well?

  1. I bought 20,000 DEC at the price of $0.0044. 10,000 of it was spent on packs and the rest were held. Months later, the DEC price went too high.
  2. I earned 30,000 DEC from almost 2 months of playing and grinding the game. Together with the DEC I am holding, I sold my 40,000 DEC at the price of $0.014 making a 300% Return of Investment.
  3. While holding those DECs, I earned hundreds of SPS from airdrop and I re-stake those SPS for more staking rewards.
  4. With all of my SPS staked, I earned roughly 3 vouchers which I sold around $50+. From that profit, I spent it to buy more DEC for more SPS airdrop.
  5. I am studying the cards that I think is useful starting from the silver league. I slowly bought some of it, little by little, piece by piece, to reach at least level 4 so that I can use their maximum potential for silver league.
  6. From those cards that I bought, it added up more power to my collection which means more SPS airdrop points.
  7. From those cards that I bought, I can now grind to at least silver 3 with lesser to no renting cost.
  8. While my ECR is on cooldown, I list my cards on market for rental and I can earn at least 100 DEC daily for that, making my cards to pay on their own.
  9. I took out 70% of my profit and the rest were used to help my account asset grow more.

Now that there are too many changes in the game these previous months, I dropped off my 2 alt accounts and focused on my main account to make it grow even more. And with the release of chaos legion, I am thinking of spending all of my SPS to buy packs on general sale. This is to avoid buying them in 3rd party market which is very costly. My plan is to make my account playable at its maximum potential in silver league, renting only summoners.

This is my splinterlands journey and how I made my $140 investment grow and profitable.

Never think that you as a new player, is too late to start the game and earn from it. Just invest wisely and learn from your own mistakes.

That was a delight reading your journey! I wish I had discovered Splinterlands since Untamed packs were available.

That's the kind of motivation we all need!
