I think you're going to run into the problem of holding people's cards hostage. You already get refunded the difference when it's canceled early. The real problem is that the person loaning the card out for rental cannot unilaterally decide how long the renter gets to rent it for. So cancelling the rental is literally the only way they can adjust that and it gives the renter the remainder of the 24 hour period to use it.
