Battle Showcase! The Importance of Speed and Rulesets

Hello Everyone! Today I'm gonna show off a couple of battles I would have lost under normal circumstances and also explain the importance of paying attention to speed and the rulesets.

1. Opportunity means speed is good

This battle was under the opportunity ruleset with divine shield, which negates the first hit a unit receives. Normally, this would probably have been a really close battle due to harklaw, but opportunity means backline units always go for the weakest unit first. In addition, divine shield meant that my units would be able to survive at least one hit from magic reflect, allowing the pixies to survive more punishment.

This is where speed comes in, my naga assassin is the fastest unit on the field and will go first. Therefore, bar flying and dodge, it will always hit the enemy and knock off the shield for my axemaster.

Axemaster is also really good here as not only is it fast, it attacks twice, allowing for at least 1 hit to go through.

By the time the axemaster and assassin have acted, the vampire's dead and the chicken's shield is missing, allowing me to quickly finish it off and move on to the actually dangerous opponents.

By the end of round 1, only 3 units remain, and at the start of the following turn, the axemaster and assassin killed off the ancient lich, while Harklaw and Chwala continued to have their battle of the titans.

From there, it was pretty much over. If you want to watch the battle, here is the link.

But thats just one example of how speed is good when you're fast. Now how about in reverse?

2. Reverse Speed and why you shouldn't always use ooze

For this second battle, there was no way under normal circumstances I would have won. His units were faster and would have killed my Torhilo before I could act. However, this was a reverse speed ruleset where the slowest units went first.

As you can see, he reduced my speed while increasing his by 2, guarenteeing that i would always go first. This is dangerous on reverse speed as it not only slows down your units, but increases the chance for your non-magic units to miss against the opponent.

And go first I did, before any of his units had a chance to act, his prismatic energy and its dangerous magic reflect went down and never got a turn.

By the end of the second turn, it was over. Though it was amusing to watch Torhilo die to a chicken. If you wanna see the battle yourself, here's the link.
