Hey folks 😁 Graham here.

Welcome to another Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge. Here is the original post if you want to enter a battle yourselves.

This week we are taking a look at the Counterspell ruleset.

All monsters receive the Magic Reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy monsters that attack with magic receive damage back.

Damage returned is equal to the damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.
Magic monsters with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from reflected magic attacks.

The best strategy for this ruleset would be not to use any magic attack cards if possible especially if they have the Blast ability as you will of course receive twice the damage back. For example i would normally play Ruler of The Seas but i left him out of the battle below. If you have very high level health magic monsters you can get away with still using them in a pinch.

I do have one Magic attack card in my line up called Djinn Oshannus. This is a great monster as he has loads of health so he can take a few hits. He also has the Void and Phase abilities at level 2 which is perfect for this situation as Void reduces the damage taken from magic attacks and the Phase ability means magic attacks can miss the monster.

Edition: Chaos Legion

Rarity: Legendary
Element: Water
Attack: Magic
Abilities: Void at level 1, Phase at level 2 and Forcefield at level 3.

Battle Walkthrough

As the warriors enter the battle arena we get a look at our opponents line up. We can see has a similar line up to me with a couple of the same cards! I do however have some superior monsters with Cornealus at the back and my tank has Heal which gives a great advantage.

Round 1 pases with no fatalities until the very end when the enemies Deeplurker monster kills my Torrent Fiend. Not too worry though as it was there as cannon fodder.

Round 2 begins with the Earthquake killing my Furious Chicken.

Next my tank Sea Monster is killed by Diemonshark! Luckily my Flying Squid steps up to the tank position and wipes out the Diemonshark. Vengeance is mine!

The enemies Pelacor Bandit takes a shot at Cornealus but quickly regrets it when he is destroyed by the spikey Thorns ability!

Round 3 ends with the enemies Deeplurker killing my tank Flying Squid. This is a close match!

Round 4 kicks off with my Djinn Oshannus taking out Flying Squid. Sadly Djinn Oshannus is killed by Deeplurker and it doesn't look like I can win..

Wow..I'm forgetting about Thorns and the Magic Reflect ability which is allowing Cornealus to retaliate from the first position..and with his high health and Heal ability i am definetly winning this.

This was a great battle which i enjoyed writing about. I will definitely use the same line up and strategy again in other battles.

Check out the Great Battle to see him in action!
