Hello, Splinter Players!

This week the battle challenge theme is: LAVA SPIDER!

Lore: Few explorers dare to go deep within the volcanoes of the world. Tales are told of great spiders that weave threads of fire and trap their enemies in webs of flame. An inescapable and painful death.

When the Chaos Legion entered the Splinterlands through the great volcano in the center of Praetoria, they saw the lava spiders and used them to their advantage.

The Lava Spider is a Ranged card from the Chaos Legion edition. As you can see in the table below, it has the "Snipe" ability since level 1. Throughout its evolution, it acquires the "Snare" and "Poison" abilities, increasing the utility in the game and the chances of dealing DAMAGE.

However, it does not stand out for the DAMAGE it does, but for the low MANA cost (3) and the decent amount of HP, which makes it a good option especially in low MANA battles.

The Battle

I played this battle in the last Brawl of the guild "Os Lordes". I was limited to using 27 mana with the following rules:

Keep Your Distance: Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles.

Fog of War: Monsters lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.

My Team & Strategy

YODIN ZAKU - A strong legendary summoner, but with a high Mana cost. Despite not having that much Mana available, I thought the best strategy would be to bet on Yodin's buff focusing on the use of Ranged cards.

FURIOUS CHICKEN - Since I couldn't use cards with Melee Damage, I used Chicken in first position to tank the initial hit.

MOLTEN ASH GOLEM - This card has a lot of HP and has the "Close Range" ability, allowing it to attack from the first position even though it's a Ranged card. Therefore, the ideal card to be my tank.

GOBLIN SHAMAN - This card was chosen for its utility, as it has abilities that reduce the opponent's HP and Speed.

LAVA SPIDER - Even though the ruleset don't allow the use of the "Sneak" ability, I still found this card to be very good due to its stats and low mana cost. It was the best card I had available to use.

SCAVO FIREBOLT - Costing 1 more Mana and having 1 more Ranged Damage, I chose this card for the same reason as LAVA SPIDER.

SPARK PIXIES - Finally, this card that has a lot of Speed to ensure that I have some Initiative in the game, in addition to having the "Flying" ability.

As already said, the STRATEGY here was to use as many Ranged cards as possible to take advantage of Yodin's buff. Although the LAVA SPIDER is not the main piece in this battle, I wanted to show another side of this card which is its good base stats, being useful even without its initial "Snipe" ability.

The Order in Battle is according to the importance and the amount of HP that each one has, with cards with more HP tended to be in the front, since the "Sneak" ability could not be used, and cards with more Damage tended to stay behind to deal as much damage as possible before being destroyed.

Did Your Strategy Work?

While I bet on the Ranged cards, my opponent used the cards that deal Magic Damage.

I managed to endure the Round 1 with the MOLTEN ASH GOLEN and the CHICKEN. My opponent had two cards with the "Swiftness" ability increasing the Speed of their monsters, so it was essential that I used the GOBLIN SHAMAN to decrease this enemy buff and ensure that my cards hit their attacks.

The start of Round 2 was the pivotal moment of the match:

If it wasn't for the Speed of SPARK PIXIES attacking first and destroying L. ARIANTHUS and SPIRIT MINER, I would certainly have lost. So yes, my strategy worked!

Do You Like The Lava Spider?

Yes, I like this card as it has a good synergy with YODIN ZAKU and SELENIA SKY summoners. In low Mana battles it is really useful, especially along with FIRE BEETLE, both of which cost 3 Mana and have the "Snipe" ability.

Well, that's all for today! I hope you liked it!

Thanks and See Ya Later!
