If you're a new Splinterlands player but you're not botting, you're stupid

Make good choices

If you're a new splinterlands player, turn away right now. It isn't player friendly. You will earn more for your time while blogging on hive than playing splinterlands. If you must still invest some time into it, look for a botting service. Do not play it yourself. If you insist on playing without any cards, at the very most, complete your daily quest then don't look back until the next one.

Must you play splinterlands regardless? Okay. Then you should bot your account. Get to a discord like @vcdragon's https://discord.gg/5qMxSZ25mh then get your empty account botted for 1 hbd. Make several accounts if you want, get them all botted. There is no reason to learn how to play the game right now. You shouldn't bother.

Until yesterday, players were welcome to buy the daily quest potion using credits, which was one of the tools available to help keep DEC at the intended peg. But they've completely removed it. This is good to players who already own a lot of cards and whatever else. But this makes the game fruitless to anyone who's just starting out. So don't insist. Don't play splinterlands.

Before the airdrop, they've explicitly said owning cards was the best way to earn SPS. Recently, they've posted how people were using DEC to earn SPS from the airdrop instead, since that is the best way to earn SPS. At some point, DEC's getting dumped, and some people are going to know when this happens before it happens - not you, though.

Because of how wild these changes are, I no longer intend to save up for chaos legions boosters ahead of time, since I don't know if they'll be purchasable using credits anymore. Earlier, I assumed I could, but since they've just removed a way to buy something from the shop using credits, I cannot trust I'll be able to buy chaos legion packs using credits either.

Whatever money I have now will go to axie infinity or astral entities or whatever else floats my boat, instead of saving up for chaos legion. Because right now, to the majority of people, splinterlands is not a game, just some defi pool. Games are better investments for non-whales, so I'll look for games with viable growth, where there is a lot of potential, as I see none in splinterlands isn't at this moment.

I was planning to getting started with splinterland. After reading this, I think I might not register at all. I better focus on rising star game only. I trust in it.

I suggest you read more widely on this topic before making a decision. @felipejoys has completely ignored card rental in his complaints above and IMHO most of them are misconceived and fail to understand the proper function of DEC as the money of Splinterlands.

he assumes I've ignored rental
I didn't
you can get your spellbook, but you should bot the account. if you're not botting then don't get it
or you can get it anyway and then come back to tell us both about your new-player experience

getting voted potential worth $10 for each splinterland post related stuff is enough reason for me to open my account and post about it later..

yes - like I said in this very post, blogging on hive earns more than playing splinterlands. for a new player.

you can also assume he's protecting his own investment
that's what investors do
he does have 54 thousand dollars worth of cards on his account
take holders' advice with two tons of salt

I think you are over reacting.
DEC was never supposed to be a pegged token.

Quest potion pricing in Credits was out of whack with value everywhere else in the game and needed to be fixed.

Splinterlands is still a way more fun game to play than Axie or most other blockchain games.

It also requires far less investment to be able to succeed. $10 for a Spellbook and then renting cards can get you into higher Leagues where you can earn a lot more than the cost of renting.

Axie requires $1000 up front!!

DEC was never supposed to be a pegged token.

yes it has been supposed to be soft-pegged since forever now

Just yesterday aggroed referred to DEC as a stable coin on discord again

source https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@dhimmel/re-handtalk5-qx0o7s

yes, it was soft pegged to 1000 dec = $1. it was. now that it isn't convenient to them, they've blatantly snuffed it out, despite clearly stating it multiple times

that was the whole point of offering booster packs for either $2 in fiat or 2000 dec btw

Splinterlands is still a way more fun game to play than Axie or most other blockchain games.

not for the new player it isn't. also, how much do you think splinterlands requires upfront? nothing? you also get nearly zero if you only buy the spell book. how much do you have to spend on level 3 summoners? 40 fucking dollars on a single summoner? pft.

image.png

let's say you want to complete every daily. you need 5 summoners and a decent monster roster if you want to stay at like silver 2 for both collection power requirements and win rate %. maybe an absurdly low amount of monsters could do? like 5 for each splinter?

image.png

even though that's obviously very little variety... yet we're still talking about 90 dollars for each of the cheapest monster. 450 dollars in monsters and 350 dollars in summoners. 800 DOLLARS FOR A STUPID SMALL "COLLECTION" YOU CAN BARELY EARN DEC WITH aaand it won't even take you to SILVER 2!!!! SILVER TWO!!!!

Axie requires $1000 up front!!

ok so we have the requirement of spending 800 dollars to sit at fucking silver 3 in splinterlands

and then we have the... 1000 up front... what? no

I'm skimming through the axie marketplace for a viable team to somewhat easily complete the daily quest and get 75 slp every day. here's what I've picked:

image.png

image.png

image.png

around $750 total.............. easily beats 5 times in the arena + farms adventure. will net you 100+ SLP every day. so it earns more than splinterlands for less money

using rentals effectively is retardedly hard for new players
you might have missed the point: the game is retarded for newbies
if it isn't new-player friendly, it loses hype
people are more likely to pursue different games
and some active players like me will stop respecting the game and will proceed to farm it by whatever means are available
I think it's retarded
if you don't, it's okay
but I think it's retarded

ps:

Quest potion pricing in Credits was out of whack with value everywhere else in the game and needed to be fixed.

no it wasn't

it was a terrible idea to buy one of them when dec was below 1000 dec = 1 usd
it was one of the mechanisms to drive 1000 dec into 1 usd

it's designed to fit in and do it just like hive does with its hive/hbd equilibrium

what do you think would happen if we could still buy untamed packs for $2 using credits?
people would get cards, earn dec, and its price would go down
they're riding the hype wave, earning with their personal accounts
breaking their game apart if they have to
atrocious

If DEC was still at USD1:1000 then there would not be enough DEC in existence to allow the volume of card sale transactions.

As a general principle of the function of money there has to be an expansion of either price or supply or both to match increases in economic activity. DEC is the money of Splinterlands and there are mechanisms for both its price and volume to increase to match the huge increase in the economic value of activity in the game.

In my view the Splinterlands economic system is coping extremely well with massive and very rapid growth - something that is very hard for any system to handle.

if daily quests were still there, new cards would come into existence more quickly. there would be more dec. it alleviates both of the issues presented in your argument

furthermore, there has always been the 1000 dec = $1 soft peg and it was clearly used time and time again in AMAs and features. it was taken away because they want DEC prices going upwards. they break things as they please even though it goes against their own word a month prior

Hi @felipejoys
I think this post is a reaction to the change made by Splinterlands but to say that people who start playing Splinterlands now without bots are stupid is not something I share.
I tried to play as a new player and made an experiment that I invite you to read, in 42 days I recovered the initial investment (profit +7.5 $) only thanks to the game rewards and without without quest potions:
https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/my-splinterlands-experiment-from-usd10

But Splintelands offers much more than that:
Weekly contests
Giveaway
Trivia Challenge
Airdrop SPS token
Card Rental
Trading (Cards, DEC tokens and SPS tokens)
SPT tokens (obtainable by publishing posts with spt and/or splinterlands tags on the Hive blockchain)

A player who registers now and in addition to playing regularly participates in Splinterlands contests and giveaways organized by Splinterlands and other players can recover the cost of registration in no time.

I gave some advice to new players at the end of this post of mine: https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@libertycrypto27/is-splinterlands-a-good-investment-21-months-later--advices-for-new-players-splinterlands-e-un-buon-investimento-21-mesi-dopo

Obviously it's just my opinion and I respect yours even if I don't share it.
Have a nice day

Calling them stupid was clickbait. I think splinterlands is worthwhile in general, but it's in the worst state for a new player that it has been in the past year or longer. It should go back on track with Chaos Legion, but that's far away.

Also you may link me whatever post you want, but in practice, I hear people saying they're giving up climbing ranked and whatnot left and right. I am not negatively affected, but everyone in a few discords who are just getting started are generally giving up for now.

Low player retention and fear of DEC crashing down is creating a very hostile environment for new players. Who wants to invest in a market that's about to crash as soon as Chaos Legion comes out? I sold my cards and I have no regrets. I want to buy back in with Chaos Legion.

Holders are happy with these players renting stuff, so ofc they're going to be salty about my post, but it doesn't change that the current scenario is subpar comparing to what splinterlands has been in the past.

I repeat: I am not negatively affected. I care about the game itself. Imo, the situation right now is awful to very new players, and that negatively affects the game. It's no wonder there was a whole "new player experience" project from the dev team, it's super important. But well, it's terrible right now.
