Splinterlands Journal, April 25th - "Renting for a tournament"

Maybe it was worth it

I decided to rent a bunch of silver-level cards in Splinterlands. All of chaos legion's silver level cards, from commons to legendary, then join a tournament. It's only round one so far, which ends in three and a half hours from now. The only problem is how card rentals aren't going to last long enough. I'll have to extend their rentals.

After spending ~1000 dec in rentals and doing well enough in the tournament, I'm knees deep in this already, so I'm going to extend those rentals. Hopefully, I get enough profit from this to cover renting expenses.

Check out the tournament I'm talking about in this post: https://splinterlands.com/?p=tournament&id=7c0020c5391d0b1bfe225382660e5048d9b3150b

But I'm doing pretty well in the tournament so far - 8 wins, 3 losses, all battles fought. It only cost me 2 SPS to enter (and at least 705 staked SPS), so if I do end up at rank 18 as I stand right now, I'll get 12 SPS profit. Which is nearly enough to cover what I've spent so far.

Making the most out of rentals

Gladly, I also put these cards to good use in ranked matches. While I obviously played the tournament by myself, having a bot running constantly until my rentals are done helped me earn enough to end up (at least a little bit) in profit.

Will I really win anything? I'll talk about it tomorrow after my tournament. But this little operation will probably end up in debt, because I'll spend another 720 DEC to extend my rentals right now.

It costs a little less to renew because some of the rentals were cancelled by their owners and I don't want to rent new ones again. But I'm going to rent a new dragon summoner regardless. You just shouldn't play CL tourneys without it.

Round 1 battles from the tournament

As far as battles went so far? I'll show you a really good battle I fought and a really lousy one too. First up, I'll use my battle against @espartaco since they were using maxed cards for this tournament too.

This battle was amazing, and I mostly won thanks to choosing the Life Splinter. I thought I should focus fire on their frontliner, since Water and Earth are disabled, which means no one gets additional armor.

I think that's a good strategy in the Spreading Fury rule set because damaging a lot of different monsters without killing them would result in allowing the enemy to attack first in the following round thanks to the burst of speed I'd have given them.

But a lot more important than that, I had chosen the life splinter because of Uriel the Purifier. Not only was he the most enduring tank available, he also has the highest speed. That was a fantastic choice, since two or three attacks missed him after he became enraged, which actually was part of the reason I'd picked him.

And then I had this crappy battle. Both me and @hellslash chose the same monsters. Sure, they weren't in the same order, but if you follow the battle's events, you'll see it made no difference. However, he attacked first, which made me lose. And that's all there is to it. :(

So that's all for today. I'll let you know how the tournament unfolds.
