Asking for Help from the Splinterlands Hivemind

Hey Everyone. I've been a member of Splinterlands since May of 2019 but took a long break in the beginning, missing out on a lot, including experience learning the game. So I've been trying to catch up as I've gotten back into the game. What I've found is that I seem to be feeling a bit overwhelmed picking which summoners and elements to strengthen first. So a bit of background, I love the idea of this game, but also don't have a lot of $ to invest into it. Just little bits here and there. So I'm currently trying to rent out cards to make some DEC to help fund any card purchases to strengthen my decks.

Now down to the reason for this post. I've read a lot of posts and articles on what cards to strengthen, which ones are best and work together, etc. My biggest question is: How did you choose which elements and summoners to strengthen first?

I obviously need to be very strategic in what I purchase to get the best value. My initial instinct was to pick a single summoner and the corresponding element to level up. Normally I guess this would work except, while battling, I found there were a lot of times when that element, summoner, or particular cards, would be unavailable due to the rulesets effecting the battle. So then I decided I should build multiple decks up at the same time. Now obviously this means spreading out resources.

The issue I've found is that I have begun second guessing myself. I started with earth and Obsidian because I had more magic attack cards. Then I added water with Kelya since I pulled a gold card from a pack. Seemed like a good start until I pulled a few good life cards from some Chaos Legion packs and then bought Chanseus the Great because I liked the abilities he brought to the table. Although with Chanseus, not only is he not exactly cheap to level up, but I've now found that I use the life element less. Add to that I was able to get Possibilus the Wise and Lily Shieldpaw from the drops.....and I'm sure you begin to see where my mind begins going. Do I stick with the original summoners I began leveling up? Do I switch my resources to begin leveling up the newer summoners? Am I forever doomed to struggle? Haha.

I know not everyone has endless funds to pour into the game and I'm sure these questions have been asked before. How did you decide which cards to hold on to and which ones to rent out? Currently I only have doubles rented out. So if I have a gold version of a card, and it's higher level than the regular card, I have the regular rented out, and vice versa.

Is there a better way to make DEC to help purchase the needed cards to level up? Consider me a n00b with battling. I tend to see the rulesets and attempt to build a team, which I think will work, and then half the time get destroyed, with the other half of the time I pull out a win. Lately my guild brawl battles have been more losses than wins, and I rarely get far into any of the tournaments that I enter. I almost feel like I'm simply missing that one clue to open my mind to what I should be doing. Then again I may just be very unlucky with my battles lol.

What suggestions would you have for me? What strategies did you use to get your decks battle-worthy? Did you focus more on building up your funds before building up your decks? Thank you to anyone who has read this rambling post of someone trying to figure out a way to grow within this amazing platform.

What league do you plan on playing in? That makes a big difference in which cards to get.

Check out this post which shows which cards are used most frequently by league and the win rates. Check your league and focus on some of those cards. Chaos Legion are the most inexpensive to get now. https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@jacekw/usage-win-rate-of-monsters-and-summoners-or-season-107-or-modern
