To Sell Or Not To Sell?? That is the Question - Splinterlands Voucher System

avatar

Chaos Legion pre-sale is eventually here
but it is here to haunt us!
it's not only Dr. Alastair who is infected, but the whole community

the first week is almost gone , more than 34.000 packs have already been sold which means more than 34.000 Vouchers have been burned, but serious questions poison everybody's minds
what should we do?...Shall we sell the vouchers for the lucrative $19 (by the time writing this post) or Shall we keep them to spend them on CL packs
don't tell me that you have not faced this question when you're going to bed cause i will never believe you

before going any further let me make clear that whatever i write here is my personal beliefs
it is not financial advices in any way
i always say don't trust anybody, do your own research before you decide what path you should follow

tov123f.jpg

so
To Sell or Not To Sell?? That is the Question
what do you think Hamlet would have done??

i think this question does not have a clear answer guys
yes i know i'm disappointing you by not giving you a straight answer but you see the success of this game is exactly the fact that there is no clear answer to many many critical questions such as this one
everyone has his own strategy ( depending on what kind of a user he is) , but noone knows for sure that he is walking the right path
lets try to dive into this matter in order to clarify some things and then you might find the answers you are looking for

according to my opinion the first thing we must do is to divide the community into categories
by doing so, i'm giving YOU and MYSELF a map..
a map which will navigate us around more easily..

so lets say we have 3 categories of users

  • high budget whale users
  • medium budget users
  • low budget users

i'll try to explain below what i would have done if i was a high budget, a medium budget or a low budget user myself

footer.png

fg1.jpg

first category
-whales-
users who hold very big-valued accounts with plenty of cryptos in their wallets
if i was a high budget user and someone was asking me 'what are you going to do ? are you selling or not?' , i believe the answer i would have given him, would be very quick and easy..
of course i'm selling!
yes my dear Splinterlanders i strongly assume that a high budget user because he has many weapons on his hands , must sell
if i was one, i would have bought 2000 packs in order to have a guarantee 2 gold foil airdrops of Dr Blight , legionnaire titles, many regular foil Dr Blight and all the other vouchers would have gone to the market for selling
i really have NO second thoughts on that...selling the vouchers would have been my strategy
the sensitive point here of course is that i was going to buy a serious amount of packs first, i was not going to throw every single voucher on the market
as i said , high budget users have many weapons
pre-sale is for them, and they enjoy it!

footer.png

SHRIMP12.jpg

let me skip second category for the moment and hit third category
low budget users, shrimps
i understand as everybody of course that this is the majority of the 1.000.000 registered accounts (i'm sure there are more registrations by now)
most of the users out there are low budget users who jumped in the game to feel the rush!
if i was a low budget user i wouldn't try to keep any vouchers in my account either
so if somebody was asking me 'sell or not?' i would have replied ,i'm selling everything
guys please don't get me wrong
as i said in the beginning this is totally my way of thinking but if i belonged to this category i think there would have been no point on keeping vouchers or fragments of vouchers in my account
definitely i was not going to buy any of them in the market
actually it's not that i was not going to buy cause i wouldn't wanted to buy but because i couldn't afford to buy them at this price level
so i would rather sell them to keep an extra income in my wallet and after pre-sale was over i was going to buy some packs to enjoy myself and get some cards of the new series

gentlemen we must face the truth
pre-sale is not for small players
definitely someone could say ' but even if i buy 1 CL pack i still have a 2% chance to get Dr Blight ' .....yes i'm with you, i agree on this and for sure some of those low budget users who will buy 1 or 2 or 5 packs will get airdropped Dr Blight
...it is just me not feeling so lucky so i wouldn't take that deal

footer.png

dolphin12.jpg

and lets get to the most controversial category
second category
dolphins, medium budget users
what should i do if i was a medium budget user?
actually i am a medium budget user, so i am in a very difficult position to answer this question
someone could say, sell it all and get the crypto
i cannot disagree with this opinion cause lets say if you are eligible to 100 or 150 vouchers and you sell it all, you will get $1900 to $2850 ..
serious money which you can use to buy packs after the pre-sale is over
but who can guarantee you that no vouchers will be needed after the pre-sale is over??
or maybe who can tell you with certainty WHEN CL packs will be free of vouchers?
what i'm trying to say is that you can get this money by selling the vouchers but what if you need vouchers again in order to get CL packs
definitely you won't need 1 voucher per pack but maybe you will need 0.5 vouchers per pack or 1/3 of a voucher per pack...
nobody can answer you this with 100% certainty

a friend told me , ' i sell them now and if the price of them drops when we reaching the end i'm gonna buy a few thousands of them!! '
true i don't disagree but on the other hand...who can guarantee that the price of the vouchers will drop as we reaching the end of the pre-sale?? what if the price of the vouchers remain the same or even worst what if the price of the vouchers increase as we getting to the end of the 30 days pre-sale period
if something like that happens you will not be able to get the amount of vouchers you were hoping to get..

i say to some friends
' guys we need Dr Blight
it will be a promo collectible one-time airdropped card
we can find it only in the pre-sale '
the answers i got were like 'we are going to buy it on the market, we don't need to get it on the pre-sale'
so i say...what if the price of Dr Blight is $1500 from day 1 in the market?
if the price of this collectible card is $200 maybe $500 i do agree, lets sell the vouchers and with that money we can get him from the market
but what if the price of Dr Blight sky rockets from day 1?
do you think it will still profitable to sell the vouchers ???

don't forget that if you are eligible for 100 vouchers this means you can buy 100 packs, which means 2 guaranteed Dr Blight cards plus a 2% chance to receive one Dr Blight for every one of this 100 packs!
hmmm??....great dilemmas rise in my head!

and there is always the rates factor, what will the price of SPS be after one month, what will the price of DEC be after one month
a few days ago DEC was trading for $0.015...today it is trading for $0.011
few days ago SPS was trading for $0.85 ,today it is trading for $0.63
the price of CL packs though remains at $4, which means more SPS, more DEC to purchase one pack

i really am totally confused
i have no answer of what a dolphin must do and what the most profitable decision will be
i wish every dolphin to take the best decision for his account
i really have no idea what i'm gonna do with my vouchers, but i think i'm gonna use them to get the packs
you see from my point of view ( i'm speaking as a collector ) i WANT Dr Blight
and if this Dr Blight cost me $950 in vouchers then so be it!

Well it's a great (?) thing I am not faced with this question since I only have fractions of voucher and is only expecting about 4 until the end of the airdrop. These, I will definitely use to buy CL packs, simple as that. Yep, shrimp talks. lol.

Great post! Before the pre-sale, I hesitated a lot on the strategy to adopt. Once the vouchers started to be handed out, I through all my previous thoughts out of the window and just sold all my vouchers. I get about 6 vouchers per day with all my accounts. This is about 110$ per day, free income. Well, for the moment I put all the money aside and I plan to buy packs with the money I make from vouchers once the pre-sale is finished. Maybe i will have enough left to purchase a couple of Dr. Blights on the markets lol

well, @achim03 can afford lol, but a person like me, I don't want to sell it. It's better to keep it and whatever it comes, then sell it.

You are right I have actually quite enough cards in the game lol. If I was building my deck, I would probably also think differently.

I wonder if I would qualify under the low or medium budget users but I think I will probably have like 50 vouchers by the end. So I plan on just selling them and buying packs after the fact. If I make sure to sell off a few other stuff, I think I can get enough for a few hundred packs.

Unquestionably selling VOUCHERs for ridiculously inflated prices.

There is pretty much 0% chance that the Dr. Blight card is more than $2-300 at the most.. Yodin Zaku & the Llama are only $400-500 usually, and they came from packs - they didn't ALL get airdropped on the exact same day like Dr. Blight will.

I actually just shifted my strategy today, since the market stupidity has kept up. Now, I'm using my daily vouchers + $3.60 to buy packs, and then selling those packs for $13 on the market.

I still make $10 per voucher, AND I'll get the guaranteed 6 Dr. Blights that I need to make him level 3... AND if the voucher price drops in the coming weeks I'll still buy up tons of them at ~ $2-5 each.

Selling all the way to the end. These are crazy prices just to be able to buy a pack. I don't think they will hold to the end of the month and will sell all of them unless the price drops massively.
I'm in the medium catagory and have some assets. If I can get a few thousand dollars this month it is good ammo to go buying cards or packs when the main drop is over.

To sell or not to sell Vouchers? This is a great question and only time will tell which was the right choice. I really liked your post

As one those " shrimps " in Splinterlands, i would really sell my collected voucher. $19 is really money to me. As a Filipino, that is already less than a thousand php in the Philippines. And on my second reason, its already doubled the $10 that I invested buying that spellbook. A profit for me is a profit and i will never let that opportunity to pass by.
