Card In Spotlight : AGOR LONGTAIL | Fear Her Fury, She's The Legend.

Hello, my dear Splinterlanders. How are you today? I hope you're doing great.
Those who reach this post, I wish you a good day.

With the introduction of the heavily anticipated land 1.0 expansion, entitled The Secret of Praetoria, the splinterlanders went crazy.
Splinterlands' official Discord channel is being flooded with the bragging of people getting Mythic and Rare lands. Well, I congratulate those.
I wish I could buy a land or two, but it's out of my budget.

Anyway, moving forward, in the ' Card In Spotlight ' series, I review the best and undervalued cards of the Splinterlands and their use-case. This is the fifth edition and you can read the previous editions here -

*Edition 1: Card In Spotlight : Baakjira | This Ancient Beast Is The Ultimate Tank Of The Water Splinter.

In this edition, I'll discuss a legendary card from the Dragon Splinter which is a bit costly to use in battle but can be a cause to win in the majority of battles.
Did you guess it, I'm talking about the AGOR LONGTAIL.

I'll explain the best rulesets and use-cases to use Agor Longtail effectively.
I'll also share the best battle I fought and won using Agor Longtail as the main card of the team.

So without further ado, let's start.

THE LORE

The mountains of Dragon’s Roost reach high into the sky, their peaks tearing at the bellies of passing clouds. Many species of dragon have made their homes here among the crags and ledges. They live in relative harmony, away from the nuisance of the two-legged creatures that populate most of Draykh-Nahka. There is one that is different, though. She makes her home deep within the subterranean halls of the mountain range. Other dragons avoid her, and few will speak her name. The dragonborn know her well, though, and have worshiped her for as long as they can remember.

She is Agor Longtail, one of the largest red dragons ever to have lived.

Twice each year, on the equinox, a host of dragonborn visit the lair of Agor to pay homage to her. They bring tributes, and Agor offers wisdom—a small fraction of her eternal knowledge. On the summer solstice, she leaves the comfort of her mountainous lair and takes to the skies, raining death upon any who have dared to wrong her disciples. On the winter solstice, she visits the Suam, leader of the naga and the Gloridax, to offer counsel regarding governance, economics, the military, and other matters of state. There is no mistaking, however, that Agor could destroy the Grand Consul of the Gloridax with one flaming breath if she so chose.

After the Chaos Legion’s invasion, most dragonborn gave up their pilgrimage to Agor, and those who attempted it were killed. At first, Agor thought they had forsaken her, and the great dragon fell into a dark brooding. She became angry with herself for letting these simple mortals affect her. She was a dragon, and they were insects—insignificant snippets of life that meant nothing.

But every living thing needs adoration, and Agor was no different. Eventually, curiosity got the better of her. She ventured out to discover what had become of her disciples. It was then she saw the devastation wrought by the legions of chaos. Her fury sparked a rage so great that the roar of Agor Longtail nearly split the heavens asunder.

“Why do you fawn over these hideous creatures?”

the magi asked as he rolled his eyes and smiled.

“The Dragonborn are my disciples.”

Agor tilted her head, the scales of her neck clicking.

“I feel a great power running beneath your mortal flesh. Tell me, magi, who is your master?”

The magi descended into a fit of maniacal laughter. The dragonsguard on either side of him yanked on the chains that bound him.

He said,

“My master will be revealed. All in good time. In fact, he may have a use for you. Power and loyalty are highly rewarded in the halls of chaos.”

Agor lowered her head and sniffed at the deranged human. He stank of eldritch magic.

The man jerked, his face twitched, and his eyes bulged. Drool ran down his chin from his slack mouth. A distant voice echoed through his body.

“You are Agor Longtail,” it said. “I feel your presence, long ago, at the birth of this realm.”

A strange sensation grew in Agor’s mind, a trespass of will tugging at her subconscious.

“Come to me, Agor. Join the ranks of chaos and fulfill your potential.”

A preternatural warmth tingled in Agor’s belly.

The voice continued.

“When I am done with this realm, it could be yours. When its mana has been sucked dry—”

Agor struck with a hiss, her jaws ripping the magi in half and silencing the voice.

She sat back on her haunches and frowned. It had been long indeed since she had felt this strange, nagging emotion, and it was a struggle to remember. Was it curiosity or fear?

BATTLE STATS AND ABILITIES OF THE AGOR LONGTAIL

Before I share my strategy and the battle, let's talk about the stats and abilities of this card.

Agor Longtail Stats.png

The Agor Longtail is a Legendary Dragon unit card from the Riftwatchers edition.
This card has a combo of melee and magic attacks that costs 15 mana to use in the battle which makes this card a high-mana-cost card.
Talking about the abilities, this monster has some incredible abilities. In levels 1 and 2, it has 'flying', 'taunt', and 'void armor' abilities
The next ability, 'heal' applies in levels 3 and 4.
This card's stats also increase through levels as below -
Level 1: 3 melee attacks, 2 magic attacks, 3 speeds, 6 armor, and 11 health
Level 2: 3 melee attacks, 2 magic attacks, 3 speeds, 6 armor, and 13 health
Level 3: 3 melee attacks, 2 magic attacks, 3 speeds, 6 armor, and 14 health
Level 4 :3 melee attacks, 3 magic attacks, 3 speeds, 6 armor, and 14 health

The Best Ways To Use Agor Longtail Effectively

It may cost a bit more mana to use, but Agor Longtail is a powerpack card and perfect for any mid-to-high 40+ mana cap battles.
It also has a melee+magic attack combo, therefore it works great whether you use it with Daria Dragonscale or Delwin Dragonscale, or even better with the legendary Archmage Arius.

Agor Longtail works perfectly against melee, ranged, and especially against magic attacks as it has big armor with the 'void armor' ability.
All you need to do is to supply her additional armor and a teammate with the 'repair' ability from any splinter.

I found this extremely helpful in the 'explosive weaponry' ruleset where all monsters have the 'blast' ability.
Using its 'taunt' ability, it diverts all the enemy attacks towards her, therefore the back row is safe from attacks (unless the enemy team has 'scattershot' monster/s). To make this strategy more effective, place a 'reflection shield' monster (eg. Venator Kinjo) next to her to provide an extreme shield to the back row.

I shared a similar battle below where I used the same strategy to win the battle. Have a look...

THE BATTLE

RULESET

Mana Cap: 32
Rulesets:
Explosive Weaponry: All Monsters have the Blast ability.
Reverse Speed: Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
Active Splinters: Life, Death, Dragon.

My Strategy and Team Setup

Although, the mana cap was inadequate to use Delwyn Dragonscale and Agor Longtail together, as both the cards are high mana cost cards, I took the chance.
This strategy proves that Agor Longtail is a game-winner even in lower mana cap battles.
So, this was my team -

SUMMONER

Delwyn Dragonscale

Delwyn Dragonscale.png

Team Setup

First Position

Agor Longtail - With its 'taunt' and 'void armor' ability, big health, and armor, Agor Longtail is the perfect tank as I'm planning to consolidate the enemy attack.

Second Position

Venari Marksrat - I put this card adjacent to Agor Longtail so that when this card dies, Agor get increased stats from Venari's 'martyr' ability.

Third Position

Venator Kinjo - This is an absolutely necessary card when you use a 'taunt' monster in an 'explosive weaponry' ruleset. I put it in the third position so that it too can get profited from Venari's death and then grab Venari's position.

Fourth Position

Soul Fiend - I put it after Venator so that it can absorb 'blast' damage in case Agor gets deceased and Venator starts getting enemy's hits.

Fifth Position

Adelade Brightwing - It's another important card that will help Agor to 'repair' her shield and thus provides a longer lifespan. Besides this, it also has 2 magic powers so that's an extra.

Sixth Position

Furious Chicken - A filler card to prevent sneak attacks (if any) from the enemy team.

Now that my team is ready, let's battle...

Apart from this battle, I fought and won the following battles using the Agor Longtail in my team.

Key Points Of This Battle

Agor Longtail did an amazing job as a tank. My enemy had more attacking monsters than me. His tank also had big armor and 'void armor' ability. Additionally, his summoner provides +1 armor to all monsters.
He also used a bit of a similar strategy and used Armorsmith having repair ability. My monsters had a hard time eliminating the enemy tank. All he was lacking is a monster with the 'reflection shield' ability.
This is the most crucial point of my winning. If he used one, the outcome could be different.
Overall, it was a good strategy that brings me a winning.
