Exploring Abilities : BLOODLUST | You Should Pay More Attention To This Killer Ability.

Hello there my Splinterlands friends,
How are you all? I hope you all are doing great.

I'm actively playing Splinterlands for more than one and a half years now.
In this vast time frame, I encountered various card combos by the opponent and of course created my own working combos for various rulesets.
The abilities of the cards play a very vital role in creating those combos. So, to create a working combo, you should know the basics of the abilities of the cards you're using.

In today's article, I'll talk about an ability, that is very rare in general cards i.e non-gladius cards, which is bloodlust ability.
In the gladius cards, this is a common ability which is every card has. But, only a few general cards has this killer ability.

I'll try to explore the right ruleset/scenario where we can use the bloodlust ability effectively with an example of the best battle.

So, read on...

A Few Words About The BloodLust Ability

A monster with the bloodlust ability, every time it defeats an opponent, it gets +1 to all stats, i.e attack, speed, health.
And in the 'reverse speed' ruleset, -1 to speed.
So, in general, if your opponent plays some filler cards to soak the primary attacks and you have a tank monster with the bloodlust ability, this is an advantage.
I have seen the bloodlust monsters go a long way with some gigantic increased stats till the end of the battle.

Monsters Having The BloodLust Ability

Monsters with bloodlust ability.png

When I said this bloodlust ability is rare because only two non-gladius monsters have this ability. That's right, only two. Both monsters are legendary monsters.
These are, the reward edition Jared Scar from the life splinter and, the chaos legion edition Grum Flameblade from the fire splinter.
Both the monsters have some impressive abilities, other than the bloodlust ability.

Rulesets Where The BloodLust Ability Can Work Effectively

We can use these two monsters with various rulesets.

  • In 'reverse speed' ruleset - The Grum Flameblade is the perfect monster for this ruleset.
With only 1 speed, this monster is the first to attack in this ruleset and it has enough health and armor to sustain a few rounds. And if the opponent uses any 0 mana filler card that's an advantage.

  • Battles with the 'unprotected' ruleset - In this ruleset, the monsters don't have any armor therefore they are vulnerable to every attack. The monsters with the bloodlust ability have an advantage here.
Both the non-gladius monsters, i.e the Jared Scar and the Grum Flameblade have a good amount of melee attack, and, if you can use any summoner with +1 melee attack ability like Tarsa or Malric Inferno (in the case of Grum Flameblade) and/or can use any monster/s with the 'inspire' ability, their attack will increase.
Thus, these monsters can destroy the enemy monsters with a single blow or two. And, when this happens, the monsters get increased stats.

  • In Equalizer Ruleset - In this ruleset, all the monsters have the same health that of the highest health of the monsters on either side. The Jared Scar is the perfect fit for this ruleset, as the only thing lacking is his health.
Also, using Silvershield Knight, we can further increase its melee attack to +1.
With increased health and attack, this monster turns into a beast.

  • In Low Mana Cap (17 or less) battles - In this type of battle, my preferred team is Malric Inferno as the summoner, the Grum Flameblade as the tank, and a 3-mana-cost sneak monster.
I won the majority of battles with this combo. Of course, the opponent's team formation plays a vital role here, but this combo has approx. 70% winning rate.
Below, I shared such a battle.

THE BATTLE

Now, it's time to share my strategy and the lineup for the best battle I won using the Grum Flameblade in my team.

RULESET

Ruleset.png

Mana Cap: 14
Rulesets :-
Healed Out: All healing abilities are removed from monsters and summoners.
Broken Arrows: Ranged attack monsters may not be used in battles.
Active Splinter: Fire, Water, Life, Dragon.

My Strategy and Team Setup

As the mana cap was only 14, this was not enough to fill all the slots. Therefore, I had to choose my main monsters carefully.
Also, I had these guesses before I laid out my strategy and the team that the enemy will use the fire or dragon splinter, he will use monster/s with 'sneak' ability and he will use filler monster/s to soak the primary attacks.
With these guesses, I decided to use Malric Inferno as the summoner and Grum Flameblade as the main monster, and a filler card to soak the sneak attack.

So this was my team -

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Surprisingly, I made almost every guesses correct and that's why my strategy worked absolutely perfectly.
The Grum Flameblade did a fantastic job as a tank and the main card.
There's nothing much to describe here as it was the battle of only one card from my side, but, it's really pleasing to see the bloodlust ability working.
