Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secret - Holy Protection Edition!

Another great week of battling has begun and of course we have yet another Battle Mage Secret to Unveil! This time around we are battling with the Holy Protection Ruleset. What might sound like the ultimate anti-baby strategy, what could be every nerds light saber collection or in my case my Splinterlands deck, is in reality one of the coolest rulesets in Splinterlands itself! (Good Lord, that sound so nerdy :D). Anyways, in this post, we will look into the ruleset, explain what strategy I am trying to use while giving this opportunity and last but not least, we will look into some exciting battles that we were able to win! With that out of the way, let’s get started.

Holy Protection Ruleset

Let’s start first with the actual ruleset itself: Holy Protection. Now I already made the joke in the beginning so I will stop with that, but seriously, this Ruleset is very cool! It gives every unit on the field the Divine Shield Ability which basically gives every card on the field Divine Shield. This means that the first hit will be free and you won’t take any damage. Furthermore, the Divine shield should not protect against poison so if there is an additional ruleset with poison, this would have no effect on the damage you are taking. Another very cool feature about this ruleset is, that if it is paired with a Resurrect Ability or Ruleset, the units will get the Divine Shield again, which we will see in the second battle! Now that we covered the main functionality, let’s move straight to the cards and strategy to use.

Cards & Strategy

First things first, let’s talk about the summoner to use. In this occasion I like to use the Water Summoner that gives us additional armor. Why? Because most of the time this additional armor on units without armor can function as a Divine shield light. It basically neglects all Melee and Ranged attacking damage taken. That means that we will go into this battle with a Water team.

Another very interesting strategy is to use double strike, since the first strike can eliminate the divine shield and second one cant straight deal damage. In my opinion a very solid strategy to immediately inflict damage on the opponent and get him onto his backfoot. Likewise there are the passive damage forms like, Magic Reflect, Thorns and Fire return that can be beneficial to destroy the divine shield quicker.

I decided to go with the additional armor strategy paired with the good old Opportunity tactic. With my Opportunity cards I am able to inflict damage on the most valuable cards of our opponent: the support cards. Since those have the least amount of health, they will be targeted by my two strikers: Kulu and Deeplurker! While one will take out the Divine Shield, the other one can straight away deal some good damage and try to eliminate important support cards.

On top of that it is always good to fill your board completely since this is just extra hits that you can absorb from your opponent! In general I would always recommend to account for one or two places that are just there to protect the other cards in case you will need it. Such examples are always the Fiends that are easy to use. Last but not least we should fill up our team with good damage givers such as Djinn Oshannu or Diemonshark.

Example Battle

In both example battles we then clearly see the dominance of a water deck with the additional armor. While in the first battle we are winning because we are able to clear his backline rather quickly, the second battle is a demonstration of pure dominance. Now granted, the second opponent was not as nearly as strong as the first one and also did not utilize his mana to the complete, but it can be clearly seen that the strategy with the additional armor seems to work since he was struggling to even defeat one of my units!
