Another week another battle mage secret challenge to participate in. This time around it is all about the regret of using ranged attackers! In this episode we are taking on the challenge to win a battle in the fire and regret ruleset. We will briefly go over this ruleset, talk about the general strategy as well as the cards that we are going to be using and last but not least take a look at the battle that we were able to win once again. With that being said, let’s jump straight into the post!

Fire & Regret Ruleset!

First, we need to talk about the actual Ruleset. So what is special about it? Well, it is one of the three “regret”-rulesets. What do I mean by that? With Thorns, Magic Reflect and Fire& Regret, there are three rulesets that punish a certain attacking type. This does not mean that you are not allowed to use them. It just means that these cards will get a greater disadvantage than the other attacking cards. In our case, we will get punished if our Ranged attackers are hitting their target.

There are many different ways to tackle this specific ruleset. I think the most effective is to just avoid the attacking type that is getting punished. This is also something that we are going to do. But there are also certain cards that reward you if they are being beaten. I am talking about the Martyr Ability that would boost your adjacent cards once the card is beaten.

General Strategy & Cards Used

Going into the strategy, we need to highlight another fact for the upcoming battle. We had another ruleset, which limited our selection for this battle extremely. I am talking about the Thorns Ruleset that was placed additionally upon us! This made me realize that the only correct way going forward would be a team full of magic attackers. In the end, this is what we have gone for.

The line up is pretty easy explained: We took the cards with the highest possible Magic damage because we are able to boost them with Obsidian which would grant us additional attacking power. With Goblin Psychic, Regal Peryton, Mycelic Slipspawn and Djinn Biljka we are pretty much settled with 8 magic damage per turn! The reason why I am not counting in the additional boost is because our opponent nerfed our cards again so this will not be taken into consideration. On top of that, these cards come with a good amount of total health and are able to withhold some good hits. Additionally we are able to heal our tank with the tank heal ability of our Goblin!

Example Battle

Without further ado, I would like to jump straight into the battle, because we faced a very though opponent this time around! He chose a very rare summoner nowadays: Bortus! This Water summoner nerfes all magic cards which was a very clever move by him! With the expectation of not using Melee and ranged attackers, the only attacking style left, he chose to nerf. In my opinion a very clever move. On top of that he chose Djinn Oshannus who has additionally the Void Ability which makes him even harder to defeat with just magic attackers. On top of all that, he boosts his Djinn with the Marty Ability of his Venari Marksrat once it is defeated and heals him from the back with his tank heal ability. In my eyes a very solid strategy. The only problem that he had is the lack of damage. In total he was only doing around 5 to 6 damage each turn, compared to our 9 to 10. And once we eliminated his Djinn, the other cards were not as effective anymore. Additionally, we were able to split his attacks with our Taunted card which made his attacks even more in-effective. Taken all that into consideration we were able to secure another very comfortable win!
