Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secrets - Fog Of War Edition!

Yet another week has passed and we are getting yet another secret to battle! This time around it is all about the Fog that is laying on the battlefield and making it hard to see. This fog has some special rules coming with it and this is what we are going to investigate in this post. First, we will talk about the ruleset itself. After that we will grasp the general strategy and which units we will send out into the battle. Last but not least we will try and see how this strategy works in a real battle scenario! With that being said, let’s get started!

Fog Of War Ruleset!

First things first, let’s talk about the ruleset itself. What are the special rules that this fogs is bringing with it? Well, it is rather simple. Because you can not see through this thick fog, there is literally no way to attack anyone that is further away as a Melee attacker. This means that any Sneak or Opportunity ability will not be able to be utilized here! On top of that, the Sniper Ability is also turned off.

So what is the best play here? Well, it is hard to give the most perfect strategy in this regard, but we can always try and iterate ourselves to the best version here. This is what we are going to talk about in this next section!

Strategy & Cards

The main strategy is to have a very strong tank that can hold a lot of attacks. This is of course best used when your tank has the Shield Ability which basically cuts the Melee and ranged damage in half! On top of that you want to distribute the damage done on more than just one unit. Since the attacks will go mostly through the tank, we need to place a Taunt unit somewhere else. I am usually putting these main targets on the opposite ends of the battle field so that if there is a unit with the Blast Ability, we will not get too much collateral damage there.

On top of that it is always smart to use good Magic attackers since they can go through the Armor of your opponent. Additionally, it is good to have rather quick units so that we can have an advantage of first strike. Another very important point would be to heal your tank. This is also a good way to keep your main damage dealers longer alive and therefore deal more damage over the long run! All of these scenarios are well covered by the team that you are about to see in the battle. The main players would therefore be the Mycelic Slipspawn, the Regal Peryton and the Goblin Psychic!

Example Battle

Up to the battle we go, and our opponent had a very similar idea. Well, almost. He put his main players in the end in order to protect them as long as possible. On top of that he made the mistake of putting his taunted minion in first place which would focus our attacking force even more and not spreading our attack force. With 16 damage dealt per turn, his tank was quickly erased while our tank was holding good. In general, he was also a little bit short on the attacking front with just 14 damage. You might think that this is not that much but add it up over the course of a few turns and with the addition of losing more units in the beginning it will add up rather quickly! In the end the win was really very comfortable and deserved.
