Another week another challenge! This week’s challenge is to win a battle with the Ruleset of Going the Distance. I like this ruleset because it allows you to use cards that you would usually keep on the bench and it is incentivizing you to think outside the box. Not only that but it also is cool to see what your opponents come up with. In this post we will briefly go over the ruleset itself. After that I will introduce my go-to strategy in this ruleset. Last but not least, we will take a look at an example battle. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Ruleset - Going The Distance

First things first, let’s talk about the ruleset Going To Distance. It is a pretty straight forward ruleset. It only allows you to use Ranged attackers. While this might seem very boring at first, I think it gives you a lot to think about. Since your first position card will almost never be able to attack you need to chose wisely who to put in front. It must be somebody who has enough health to withhold a few attacks but it has also to be someone who could be able to deal a lot of damage. All in all, this Ruleset allows you to try out cards and strategies that you would usually not think off, which is why I generally like to battle with this ruleset.

Strategy & Cards

As for the strategy there is one big loophole that I like to use in this regard! It is the Ability of Close Range. You see, this Ability allows the Ranged attackers to attack from the first position. In this regard, the fire element has a handful of cards that are perfect for this occasion. On the one hand we have Lava Launcher which not only impresses with this ability but also comes with 3 attack and 6 armor. In general a very good card to play in this occasion. The other card that I am always using is Tinderlock! This card is amazing. Not only does it come with the Close range Ability but it also has the last stand ability. In short: Put this card in the back of your team, enjoy the 3 damage that it deals ever turn and if it comes to the last man standing this card will get an immense boost in stats! On top of that, most Ranged attackers do not have the Sneak Ability which makes this strategy almost bullet proof.

But only with these boosts the life would be too boring, wouldn’t you agree? This is why I like to add a little bit of spice on the form of the Ability of Martyr! This Ability allows cards to boost its neighbors once the card is getting destroyed. Fortunately enough, we are getting two cards of this sort if we are playing the Fire deck. One is the Firecaller who is also able to deal 3 damage on its own and the other one is our loved Venari Marksrat. Both will not be able to attack from the first position but this is also not the plan here. The plan is to absorb some attacks and boost the real damage dealers afterwards.

Example Battle

Going into the battle with this strategy was a great success. Our opponent had a similar strategy but without the looks of Tinderlock. He went for a very well leveled team that looked for mass attack rather than quality. Well, in the end our boosts were able to secure the win very comfortably!
