Another week another interesting ruleset to battle in! This time around we are all about distance and how to keep it. I wonder if this ruleset was introduced because of COVID and whether this was the only one to be played during the pandemic time. Well, in this post we will talk about this specific ruleset, what makes it special and what strategies to follow here. We will take a look at the cards that I decided to use and last but not least look at an example battle that we were fortunately enough to win! With that being said, let’s jump right into the battle!

Keep Your Distance Ruleset!

Let’s start with the obvious question. What are the rules of keeping your distance. For starters, this ruleset does not allow the usage of any Melee card in this battle. This is basically it. Any other card is allowed and can be used unless there is another restriction that is being forced upon us. Well anyways, let’s talk about the things that we must think off before sending our team to battle to their death.

Since Melee Cards are not allowed, the only options we have left are Magic and Long Distance Units. This means that if we use an archer in the first position, we will not be able to utilize its attack unless it has the Close Distance Ability. Rhis leaves us only one option really: to use a magic card as tank. Furthermore, there is the question which other cards to use and I always tend for the Magic ones rather than the Long Distance ones. With that being said, let’s talk about the strategy and which cards we used here.

Strategy & Cards

Since we decided to go with a Magic attacking team, the question is which summoner we will be using. The obvious choice is to go with the earth Splinter and use its Magic attacking buff. This would help us to boost each unit’s attack by one. But this time I had a different idea that I wanted to try out. Rather than going with the obvious choice I decided to go an alternative route by using the Dragon summoner, but not just some dragon summoner but the one that boosts our speed and allows us to play a Gladius card! Why? Well, there are pretty good gladius cards out there and a speed advantage without Melee attackers can actually be beneficial! But this is not where we stop. Additionally, I selected the Clockwork Aide to boost our speed even more! This would help us to get an even bigger advantage over our opponent that will most likely attack with very slow magic attackers.

The only bummer with the Clockwork Aide is that it has no attack, meaning that we are sacrificing an attacking spot with a support card. Well, unless we are using the Life Splinter as our secondary Splinter here! You see, in the Life Splinter there are pretty powerful Magic attackers, one of which is Aves Sturgis with the Weapons training Ability. It allows us to give adjacent units half of its attacking points which would then allow Clockwork Aide to attack!

On top of that we have two additional Magic attackers that are very similar: Captain Katie and Djinn Renova. While the first one has the bloodlust ability paired with the Sniper Ability, the latter increases the health of each unit by one which gives us even more of an advantage! The real star is Captain Katie though. Thanks to the Bloodlust Ability her stats can just skyrocket into an insanely strong card.

Last but not least we need to talk about the Dragon portion of our team. In the end, we should take advantage of our Dragon summoner and use some of these strong cards as well. Frist up we have our tank: Void dragon. On the surface maybe not the most powerful card but with the help of the Void Ability we are able to take more Magic damage than a usual tank and therefore make our opponent’s attack less effective. Right behind him we have Chaos Dragon that comes with 3 speed and 3 Magic attack on his base card. This is just very strong and helps us to deal the damage needed in order to win the battle. With 10 health he is not the lowest on health either!

Example Battle

Moving to the battle, our opponent had the expected Magic team. With his attacking force he defiantly had the upper hand, but we had the effects to negate him! Not only were we always faster to attack but our tank took out most of the damage in the first round. This way we were able to take out two of his attackers rather quickly while losing only one card on our side. After that, the battle evened out and due to our higher attacking speed we were able to take the lead in the battle. Since magic attacker do not have the most health in general, the battle was quickly over with a more happy ending on our side!
