Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secrets - Opportunity Edition!

It is the time of the week again! Battle Mage Secret is bringing us the Opportunity Ruleset and it is a very cool one once again! In this post we will discuss the Opportunity Ruleset in a little bit more detail, talk about the strategy and the cards that I like to use in this occasion as well as look at the example battle that we were able to win once again. With that being said, let’s jump straight into it!

Opportunity Ruleset!

First things first, let’s discuss the Opportunity Ruleset. For starters, it allows every monster to get the Opportunity Ability. This means every monster will attack the monster with the lowest amount of health except if there is a Taunted monster on the field. Another exception is the Camouflage ability which will play an important role later on, so do not forget about it!

In general this Ruleset allows all monsters to attack from any position which allows the players a greater range of monster selection as well as a bigger variety of strategies to use. It also allows you to utilize the health of monster in order to steer the attacks of your enemy and therefore allow your big hitters to be relatively safe in the first few rounds. With this in mind, let’s take a look at the strategy that we chose to go into the next battle.

Strategy & Cards

Well, as mentioned before, this ruleset allows us to utilize basically every monster in any position that we want. This means that we can use cards like Grund anywhere on the field and profit from his Double strike ability while being protected from any other attacks. In the combination with Thane Newsong we are able to bump Grund’s attack up to 4 which means that he will deal 8 damage every turn! Keeping in mind that he will always attack the card with the lowest health means that the opponent’s monsters will crumble down pretty quickly. In addition to that, both cards have a fairly high amount of health which makes them not the number one target from the beginning.

In order to steer the attacks of our enemy even more, we can and will utilize a Taunt cards. This way we can ensure for the first turn that the attacks will go a specific way and protect our main attackers even more. Mycelic Slipspawn is a perfect card for that. Not only does it come with 11 health but also with 2 magic attack that will get bumped up to 3 as well as 3 speed that allows it to not attack as last one. Its faith will always be to go down first but as long as it can get some attacks in by itself as well absorb as many hits as possible it has done the perfect job.

Last but not least I want to draw your attention to a very overlooked card in my opinion: Djinn Biljka. It is one of the cheapest legendary cards out there and is worth every single penny in my opinion. For a cost of only 3 mana you are getting an attacker with 3 magic attack! What else do you want? Oh and did I forget to mention that this card can not get sniped because it has the Camouflage Ability? On top of that it reduces the health of every opponent’s minion by one and has the Void Ability which makes it a very usable card in the Opportunity ruleset. It will survive until the end dealing a constant damage of 3.

Example Battle

Now that we covered our strategy as well as the most important pillars of our team, let’s take a look at the battle that we are facing. We are up against a Life Team that is fairly balanced. On top of that our opponent also chose to steer our attacks into a Taunt minion that has also the Void Ability which reduces our attacking force by a good margin. Additionally, he slows us down with his Time Mage which is a good move in general in my opinion. Well, good thing that we still have Grund that can deal a total of 8 damage each turn and this also the reason that we are able to win this battle pretty comfortably. Not only does he destroy the Taunt minion very quickly but every other card afterwards is getting literally obliterated. In the end we are still have 3 out of our 4 most important cards on the field showing us that we chose the correct strategy for this exact battle.
