Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode I wanted to talk about my personal Splinter Tier List. First, I will set the criteria on how I am judging them and then we will go through the Splinters one by one. Keep in mind that this is only my personal opinion based on my playing style and other guys that are in other leagues might have a different angle on this topic. With that being said, if this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Personal Splinter Tier List & Rules

First things first, before we jump into the actual tier list, let’s set some rules and criteria. Like mentioned in the beginning, this rating is based on my own experience. This means that I judge from a Gold League perspective and not with fully leveled cards. Furthermore, I am not considering the dragon Splinter since I think that it will always be the most superior one out of the six. This is why I will take it out of the rating. Last but not least I want to mention that I am also only considering the latest expansion. This means that we will only talk about Chaos Legion & Riftwatchers cards.

Last Place: Life

Unfortunately, someone has to take the last place. In my opinion this is the Life Splinter. While I think that there is a lot of potential, especially with the new Reward summoner that grands Armor or the legendary summoner that gives the cards Void armor, I think that the basic summoner that buffs the Ranged attackers is a little bit too weak.

The Life Splinter does have some pretty good cards. Without a doubt, cards like Time Mage, Captain Katie or Pelacor Arbalest are pretty good on their own. But I never managed to get a really homogenous team on the field. There is always an element missing that I was not able to find yet. Therefore, for me Life has to take last place.

Fourth Place: Fire
Next up we have the Fire Splinter in fourth place. With Tarsa, the Fire Splinter has a pretty strong summoner in my opinion. She grants us an extra health as well as an extra Melee which is going very well with the basic monster typing of the Fire Splinter. But while this might work very well at first glance, you will quickly realize that the Fire Splinter is actually very Melee heavy. In the current state of the game it is not very smart to focus your energy on just one attacking style which is why the Fire Splinter is only in fourth place.

In my experience there is a lack of Magic attackers that can be used repeatedly. While there are Djinn Apprentice and Djinn Inferni, there are definitely more selection in different Melee cards. With Tenyii Striker, Mordeus or Radiated Brute you are having the whole selection of different Melee Abilities that allow you to not only attack from the first position. In general there are also a few good Ranged attackers there but the lack of magic monsters does really harm to the Fire Splinter in my opinion.

Third Place: Earth
In third place and therefore on the first podium place, we are having the earth Splinter. To be honest, I would have considered Earth further in the front when I first started to prepare my information for this post. In fact it has the best magic attackers in the game currently and also has a summoner that is actually buffing them. Obsidian grants us an additional magic attack and helps us to deal even more damage with them. The Splinter does also have some pretty reliable Melee cards in the form of Grund or Mycelic Infantry but the hearth piece of this Splinter are definitely the magic mosnters.

For starters Regal Peryton is one of my all time favorites. Once it is on level three it has 2 magic attack which can get buffed up to three. On top of that it has Flying and a pretty high speed which gives him a pretty fair chance to dodge some incoming attacks. Furthermore, there is the Goblin Psychic which can attack from any position and is healing your tank at the same time. All of this makes this Splinter pretty usable but it has again a very similar problem as the fire one. It is very heavily based on the Magic attacking style which sometimes forgets to include the other ones.

Second Place: Death

In second place we have a Splinter that I jut recently got warm with. In fact it was one of my most hated Splinters for the longest time. I am talking about the death Splinter. It took me a little to figure out how much potential this Splinter has but also the new reward cards did make it a little bit more accessible to me. With Thaddius Brood as the summoner, it has a very powerful sorcerers there. We are taking away one magic attack but not only that, we are also taking away one health from our enemies. Now this sounds like a very good deal if I am being honest!

On op of that the Splinter has some pretty good balance between the different attacking styles. Granted, the Ranged attacking sector is not really well developed there, but still offers some alright options. On top of that we have two very good tank options, while one having Shield and is more put towards defending (Harklaw) the other one is definitely more towards dealing damage with Thorns and a great attacking value (Cursed Windeku).

But what we also should not forget in this Splinter are the different versions of Magic attackers. There are two Life Leech cards, One Sniper and even one Magic attacker with Blood Lust that is not an actual Gladiator. On top of that, this Splinter offers great support cards that range from deducting Life to granting Armor. Therefore, the strategies here are almost unlimited.

First Place: Water

Last but not least, we have the winner in my Tier List. In my opinion Water has the most balanced Splinter in the current state of the game. I really hate going up against Kelya and her Water beast and that is solely for one reason and one reason only. This Splinter has almost no weaknesses! Yes there are always rulesets where one Splinter will get favored over another but in general I made the experience that the water Splinter is very hard to beat if played correctly.

Not only does Kelya grant us an additional Speed point but the monsters are also getting one additional Armor. This already gives us an advantage over teams that are Melee or Ranged attack based. On top of that the Water Splinter does have great anti magic cards that have the Void Ability, making them almost invinsible to any attacking style they are facing. I am talking here about one of my favorite cards in the game: Djinn Oshannus but also Baakjira. As if this would not have been all, the Water Splinter has some great Opportunity attackers such as Deeplurker and Kulu Mastermind. To top it all off, they also have great Support cards such as Venari Wavesmith or Noa the Just who both either give us more armor or delete the opponent’s armor!
