Splinterlands - Recent Changes - Struggle Or Chance?
Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode I wanted to talk about the recent change that the game is undergoing. As many of you will know, there has been a change in the modern battle section. For those who don’t know, it is now required to have staked SPS in order to get Reward points and being rewarded SPS. The more SPS you have staked the more your reward will be. In this article I wanted to talk about my current struggles with this new change. Furthermore, I wanted to talk about my thoughts on that as well as my possible ways to battle this new challenge! With that being said, if this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Current Struggle With The New Reward System
Let’s jump straight into the changes that happened. Now it might sound negative if you hear that some players are struggling with this change, but while I am one of the ones who are currently struggling, I am definitely not opposed to the change. In the end the developers are trying to make the game more fun and enjoyable to play and to figure out the best way, changes need to be done.
The latest change that we are talking about is the reward points one. In a nutshell, there is no longer a collection power required to get into a certain league and your reward points that determine the amount of Quest Chests that you are getting is depending on the amount of SPS that you have staked. So far so good. On first view, it should create more demand for SPS and allow new players to catch up better. Well, almost: New players will still need leveled cards to get the most out of their reward points and rewards which is why the rental market is definitely not dead in my opinion. There is still merit to that!
Anyways, since I was not able to accumulate as much SPS as other players in this community I am currently stuck at 2.5k staked SPS. Not a little number by any means but defiantly not at the level that I should apparently be if I want to earn the same rewards in the Gold Leagues as before the change. Well, before I was earning between 6k and 10k reward points per battle. This now decreased to around 2k. Since my cards are not all leveled out the maximum I am getting penalized there as well. In conclusion this means that I would have to win about 20 battles in order to get one reward chest. While I think that the work-reward ratio is a little bit out of balance for me here, I should not complain because this is the game now. Let’s rather find ways to make the situation better!
Possible Ways Out
Alright, so let’s discuss some potential ways out. The most straight forward solution would be to just buy more SPS. Well, this sounds like a rich persons way out and because I am not rich and want a challenge we need to think of a more economical way to figure this dilemma out.
Well, good thing there is a rental place for these kind of transactions! With the change the team introduced a rental market for SPS. This will help on the one hand to give people like me access to a bit cheaper SPS and on the other hand allow people that are not playing regularly a bit of a passive income on that front. Let’s take a look at the current prices, shall we?
Right now a pack of 100 SPS would cost us around 0.008 DEC. If you would like to convert 100 SPS this would give you around 2200 DEC! This means that there is plenty of room for gain here! Think about it that way. By selling 100 SPS I could rent out 100 SPS 275k times a day! Now let’s put this into perspective:
Right now I am having about 2.5k SPS staked and have an reward earnings of about 2000 points. With 275k divided by 15 (days of the season) and multiplied by a 100 we could get each day an additional 1.8 million of SPS. This would increase the reward rate tremendously and I am very sure that the SPS earned in this timeframe would be higher than 100! With this being said, I think this transaction would make sense for someone who is playing the game regularly and is passionate about advancing in the actual game.
I hope that my math was correct and that I am not fooling myself here. I will definitely keep an eye out on the current development and make an update post once I have tried this strategy out. Until then I will keep grinding and see if I am able to increase my SPS holdings organically!
