Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode we will talk about the new Reward Cards for the Earth Element. I already covered the Water as well as the Fire Splinter in previous posts. You can check them out down below! We will discuss every single new card and think about possible combinations as well as up and downsides of these cards. With that being said, if this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Common Cards

Let’s begin with the common cards first. The first one is straight away one of the cutest cards that recently came out. This cute little Fungus Flinger is a 3 mana card that comes with one ranged attack, one speed and two health. Well, what are you expecting from a cute little Fungus? The great thing about this card is the newly introduced ability that allows us to buff the adjacent minions once this card dies. This is especially nice in Opportunity Rulesets or if you are anticipating your opponent playing an Opportunity based monster. Why? Well, this card will probably have the lowest HP on your side and therefore has a good chance of dying first which would help to activate the buff. With higher levels we even get the chance to attack with this card as its speed can go up to 4! All in all a very solid card to have.

Next up we have a more tanky card with a very great name: Terraceous Grunt. Since we are in the Earth Splinter the name is pretty hitting to be honest. On the base level this card comes with 10 health which is pretty cool and for only 6 mana it is absolutely worth considering playing this card. On top of that it has the dodge Ability which increases a missed hit by the opponent. With higher levels we even get more attack onto this card and with level 6 even a Fire return Ability. I think this card can replace some great tanks in higher mana battles. While I think that earth still has great tanks to chose from, this card can definitely make a difference for new players that are just starting out!

Rare Card

Moving on to the Rare Cards in this Set! Other than the summoner we also have another Mushroom monster. I like how this theme of the earth Splinter is coming along here. Madcap Magus is probably the best addition to the earth Splinter how I like to play it: Very heavy on Magic. Since this card is also a Magic card it has the perfect preconditions to be a great addition to low to mid range mana battles. Especially his Ability Life Leech is definitely something that will help him shine during a battle. Why? Well although this card is costing 4 mana he has only one attack, one speed and only one health. Like I said, on the top of the card this looks pretty horrible but is well compensated with the Abilities it has. On top of that it is highly recommended to level this card up since it gains more health points and even one more attack. Once I get this card in one of my reward chest, I am more than willing to try this card out!

Epic Card

This brings us already to the Epic Card in the Earth Splinter and I think that this card has the potential to be the best support card in this set! Thane Newsong looks incredible although he has no attack. For 5 mana we are getting a card with 7 health and lots of potential buffs and nerfs! For starters he will have the Ability to increase the Melee attack of our monsters which will benefit Grund and other tanks in this Splinter. On top of that we get the Strengthen Ability on level 3 which increases the health of all of our cards. Furthermore, we can increase our speed and nerf the ranged attackers of our opponent. With the new Weapons Training this card even has the potential to get himself some attack on the board. I truly think that this card will be played a lot once it has been pulled more often.

Legendary Cards

And we arrived at the legendary front! I think that Earth is one of the strongest Splinters next to Water which is why the legendary cards in this set are also not the greatest to be honest but nevertheless very usable! This is one of the strengths of this game. Even though cards seem to be not very good, there will always be use-cases to use them! The first legendary is Ava the Undaunted. She costs us 8 mana to play and comes with 3 Ranged attack, 3 speed, 2 armor and 5 health. Not bad stats other than that the Ranged attacking style is really not the strongest in the game at the moment. Still, with the Riftwatcher Summoner all Ranged attackers are getting the closed ranged ability which would benefit not only this card but also the ones that this card is giving an attack boost. On higher levels this card gets even its own Closed ranged Boost which is why this card can defiantly be a stand alone card. I would probably still prefer to focus on Magic attackers in this Splinter but this card definitely has its merit.

This brings us to the last card of the earth Splinter: Terraceous Hulk. It might be either the evolution or the big brother of the common card that we visited earlier but this card is definitely a beast I would not want to face in battle. For 11 mana we are getting 4 melee attack, 6 armor, 9 health and as always with big guys like this only 1 speed. Seems like a great tank but wait! It also comes with the Taunt and Void armor Ability which is very important against these Magic monsters. I think that this card will be the definition of anti-dote against these Magic combs that are just dominating the game at the moment. With the weaken Ability this card can be a great tank in general. The only downside is actually the 11 mana price. Not only is this card unusable in lower mana battles but it also can be targeted by the Giant killer Ability. On top of that, the Furry Ability will not benefit this card as well. All in all, this card is pretty awesome but also has its weaknesses which is always great to see!
