GameFi - The Beginnings

A new term started to be coined in the crypto sphere: GameFi. That's the intersection of NFTs and defi, the two driving forces throughout this bull market (often hyped), coupled with the gaming factor, which can be addictive in its own.

GameFi give NFTs usability and makes defi fun. That's definitely one direction that will keep expanding.

We are obviously very early in GameFi, when exponential growth happens, when scalability issues are being worked on, when fee issues compel to searching for alternative solutions, in some cases. When often graphics or gameplay suffer because many want lightning speed and cheap. But things evolve at an impressive rate.

We see governance being added to blockchain games. And decentralized autonomous organizations linked to them. That's practically another disruption compared to traditional gaming, on top of the first tier of player-owned assets and rewards with monetary value.

And so they exploded... because they are the future. I wonder though how many of us dreamt Splinterlands would be where it is today last year? I saw evolution in the game, I loved it and kept close, but I didn't see this immense wave coming...

At Splinterlands, we are now during the presale for the Chaos Legion packs. Soon after their release, the ranked battles will be split in two formats: modern (only the two latest sets of cards) and wild (all cards).

Then - I'm not sure in which order -, we will have:

• SPS rewards added to ranked battles
• SPS rewards added to guilds
• DAO development
• land release

That's just what I remember from the AMAs without further checking. Also from there I know a lot of work has already been done for land and whatever else is needed can be done in parrallel with other tasks, like work for DAO.

The new smaller set to replace DICE that can be purchased with DEC only will be coming pretty soon too. We will need lots of DEC for that. And for land.

I know many of us are waiting for land to be released, including myself. But it's coming. And thinking of all the great things Splinterlands has offered me lately, I can wait. :)

But until land is coming, we can enjoy what is already here!

The Chaos Legion Presale that is.

Today I have enough vouchers to buy another tranche of 100 Chaos Legion packs. The second one.

Again, with the 10 bonus packs, which is nice.

Looks like I'm going to need some 650 SPS for this. Let's see how much I still have in the DEC:SPS pool:

That's where I keep the liquid SPS for these purchases. I don't mind IL, because I'll end up with either more DEC or more SPS.

So, a little over 929 SPS in total. More than enough for this tranche, but I'll have to either buy or transfer from the airdrop a little more SPS for the next, and final 100 packs tranche.

And an interesting fact. My daily voucher drop slightly went up since the presale started. All while the daily airdrop of SPS is about the same, with some variations. Which to me is an indication that other people probably used SPS directly to buy packs (personally I swapped DEC for SPS for these purchases, which may not be the best idea after all) or that they started to move the SPS to pools instead of keeping it staked.
