PeakMonsters Major Update * Season-End at Splinterlands

avatar

Sometimes plans need to be adjusted when reality happens. I wanted to write something else today, at the request of a regular reader, but today turned out to be a very busy day for me on Hive (already).

It was the end-of-season at Splinterlands. But before I go into that topic, I want to speak about PeakMonsters, which just had a major update. They didn't even announce it yet, except on discord.

PeakMonsters Updates

So, as @asgarth says above, everyone has two weeks of free Premium access, to test-drive the new features. Some of the perks of this new Premium subscription are listed in this screenshot:
image.png

Now, most of my cards that are rented out are already placed on my rental accounts where they benefit from the services of rental bots, but I still have cards that I manually manage using PeakMonsters. I've gotten lazier though since managing rentals is taken care for me automatically.

But who wants to manage their own collection on the rental market, now has multiple options to do so, besides setting the lowest price on the market (which is still an option).

One interesting new option is that the price of cards that are rented out can be modified without manually terminating contracts and re-renting the cards. That can be good or bad. It offers the convenience of not having to relist the cards after the rental contract expired or was terminated, but the 2-day period before the card can be re-rented still exists, and if the price is set compared to the market when the order to change the price was given, the market situation can be different when the card is put on the rental market again. There's a 2-day delay. But maybe the price taken into consideration is the one when the card is placed back on the rental market.

I like the additional compare options and I've seen a series of new filters added, but I didn't have time to play with them yet. But generally, I love more filters.

I've read a post presenting the new features will be published soon, so keep an eye for that on the @peakmonsters account. Until then, there's the PeakD discord (PeakMonsters channel), if you have questions.

End-of-Season at Splinterlands

I've read recently a bunch of posts from people saying this last season was... terrible (as in very hard).

I have to say... before they said it, I didn't notice it, lol.

Compared to previous seasons, I played generally more relaxed, and usually less time.

Now, in hindsight, was this season harder than before? Probably.

I only reached CL3 yesterday, and I was very close to CL2 today, but nope. Today was frustrating, indeed, compared to the other days of the season for me, because I wanted to reach CL2, so I played longer than usually.

But let's look at some reasons why I believe this season was harder than before.

For once, if one compares results from the previous season to the ones from this season, I believe that's a mistake.

Last season was one of the longest (18 days) and allowed more people to rank up to higher leagues than their "normal" ones, so their reset leagues for this season were higher too. Competition at the beginning of the season was... different than they are used to.

Then, this season was one of the shortest ones (12 days). Reaching the same level of rewards as in an 18-day season, putting the same daily effort, would be close to a miracle.

The second reason why this season was harder is that players adapted to the new changes to the ranked battles rewards system.

Now it makes much more sense to play to win - even by discarding the bonus from the daily focus -, rather than focusing on the daily mission and as a result having your win-rate drop.

What I can agree with from my own experience too is that the rewards seem to have lowered in dollar value. Other than the market dynamics, to some degree, I believe that's by design: adding merits to loot chests, has that effect on daily rewards, but helps slow down the distribution of the reward cards.

I don't think my rental earnings even cover the monthly fee 😂

It has been brutal until the last few days.

Yeah, rental income was really bad for the big part of the season.

Oh, I really haven't noticed a change, even though I use the peakmonsters every day. !LOLZ Thanks for sharing! I should take a look at it).

It should've logged out from your account when you tried to use the old version.

Not really. I always have the peakmonsters page open in my browser. I log in by keychain, so it logs in automatically and works on the old version until I reload the page manually. This has happened before).

Well, maybe it logged me out because I refreshed. But I know it logged me out from all my accounts.

Well, I have 4 years of experience with the game. And I've been consistent. Understanding it is a process. And it takes time and focus.

This end of the season was hard. I hope that most of the splinters will be back in this section.

Yeah, it probably was. Didn't we complain about bots sucking the rewards from the game? :) They were easier to beat, especially in higher leagues where possibilities expanded.

Bots are part of the game but there are different quality performing bots. I guess many players opted for the highest computing strategies bots.
It is not a good situation for new players. This situation causes me to put more cards from my selection into the rental market.

I saw I am now premium but not sure if I take the subscription yet. Not sure if it is enough features to warrant it at that price level. These merits and potions are annoying. I would rather it was just DEC or SPS.

The last season was horrible and the PeakMonster changes won't remove features from existing users right?

PeakMonster changes won't remove features from existing users right?

That's a good question... I don't know what features that are currently available will still be available once we drop out of Premium. Actually, I think I want to drop out of premium and see how usable the site still is afterwards without upgrading.

I've read recently a bunch of posts from people saying this last season was... terrible (as in very hard).

I could relate to that due to the difficulty of increasing the number of chests. However, the "terribleness" was compensated by my last DF and the EOS rewards. I have nothing for the dev team but gratitude.

I am really happy for you. It's an awesome feeling to find great rewards in the loot chests.

It was actually my first time receiving a legendary card. I have been waiting for it for so long. A great way to end the last season. 😄

What I can agree with from my own experience too is that the rewards seem to have lowered in dollar value.

Same observation here. Generally, that is true. However, I learned to accept that reality because of the random character of the rewards.

That's fantastic, especially since you play in the lower leagues! :) Would have been great for the champion level too!

I remember during my early months playing the game. I sold "surplus" reward cards that at that time I didn't find much utility but later realized how useful they are and are now expensive.

Yep. I never sell cards, unless I plan to buy others with the proceeds. But even so, I rarely sold cards.

I think I sold three Onyx Sentinel, three Axemaster, and three Sandworm. I am fine now with a level 2 Sandworm. As for Axemaster, I never thought that its price would go that high. Onyx is supposed to be a cheaper replacement for Lord Arianthus for he will have the void ability at level 3.

Good. You keep track of them.

Some #Splinterlands players just keep their Sand Worm at Level 1 (having an alternative Gold Foil Sand Worm if they can afford it) so that they maximize its potential on Battles with the Reverse Speed Rule. 🤓

Oh, that's a great idea! I have to reserve one level 1 Sand Worm for that rule.

A Level 1 Sand Worm in a Battle with the Reverse Speed Rule is a great match with the Fire Summoner Qid Yuff which gives all Monsters in the team the Pierce Ability where excess physical damage to the target opponent Monster's Armor gets dealt to its Health. 🤓 However, Qid Yuff's Ability is completely useless in Battles with the Unprotected Rule where all Monsters in the Battle have their Armor removed. 😆

Oh! I never realized such a cheap Summoner. A good addition to a player's collection.

The Rare Fire Summoner Qid Yuff is great for any Fire/Neutral Monster that has low (best if only 1) Speed and has high Melee/Ranged Attack. 🤓

It's better if you own all the Cards whose Collection Power is required for you to go (and stay) in Silver II League, so that you don't accidentally drop down to Silver III whenever you forget to rent Cards. 🤓

Yeah, that's why instead of depending on card rentals, I want to buy cards that give me higher CP though with lesser battle utility.

Maybe you want to invest in a Regular Venari Heatsmith Card, which is probably the "most useless Card" in #Splinterlands right now. 🤔 Maybe it's only purpose is to "heat up" your Collection Power at the lowest possible prices! 😆

I saw that a Regular Level 10 Venari Heatsmith gives 2,100 Collection Power and costs only $2.70, so you can advance from Silver III to Silver II without the need to Rent Cards by spending only about $33 right now to get about 25,000 additional Collection Power. 🤓 #NotFinancialAdvice 😅

Note that we are talking under another person's post. 😅

Good that you're still mindful of it. This will be my last response. Let's talk somewhere else. 😆
