Splinterlands - Bot Journal

avatar

At the end of last season, I decided to enable a bot on my main Splinterlands playing account. We are now 6 days into the new season and I wanted to make an update about this.

First things first, I decided to let the bot play all the Wild matches this season, to not interfere with its performance in Wild, and see how it's doing. I must say I miss playing myself already, which means next season I need to change this a bit, so I'll play too, from time to time.

I finished last season in Diamond 1, so the bot started from Gold 1. After a visit to Gold 2, the bot struggled to bring my account to the Diamond leagues.

I allowed the bot to play once an hour for most of the period, until yesterday when I wanted it to push harder to get into Diamond 3.

For one game every hour (which means my ECR grew every day), it was remarkable it got close to Diamond leagues, but then hit a certain plateau.

After I gave it the liberty to play more often, it broke into the Diamond leagues and not only that, reached Diamond 2 too. Within a day.

The increased number of battles was probably the only push it needed to break into Diamond 3. After that, it was simply the fact it used my collection optimized for Diamond better than it could do in Gold.

The number of loot chests brought every day was satisfying. While playing for Gold chests in focus, it brought 6, 9, 9, and 14 chests. When it moved to Diamond focus chests, it brought 7 chests on the first day.

For the season, 28 Diamond chests so far, with almost 8 days left from the season. And with fewer season chests won while in Gold, which means the number of season chests should increase while I am in Diamond. The rewards themselves were rather bad (not all of them), but the bot did its job and earned the chests. The rest is luck.

There are some things to improve on my strategy for next season but overall seems like the bot stays. I will play too, from time to time, starting next season. In part for fun and because I miss it, in part because without playing I'll lose my expertise and I wouldn't want that. It's not all about the gameplay, this expertise also gives you an understanding of the value of each card you use, besides its collection or rental value.

Since I haven't played at all this season in Wild, I don't know how often Riftwatchers cards started to be used in battles. If some metas were formed around them and since I don't have any, for now, the bot had to deal with that too, and so far did that very well, I'd say.

Thats quite impressive. It has been very tough so far this season for me. I didnt see too many Riftwatchers cards so far, but I am using them for sure!!

I have to say it is. Quite impressive. And worrying at the same time. Because the bot is at least as capable as most players. I wonder if land and the extra step of equipping will help us, or if bots will master that strategy too.

yes, no room for human error can be annoying. Good that you keep playing so you don't forget the game.

I need to. I believe stopping completely is a mistake. Plus, I like the game if I don't play with an objective.

Is it secure? Any risk of losing cards?

No risk of losing cards. But I don't recommend using it on any account which you actively use for posting/voting. Because you give them your posting key, and basically, that's the most damage a posting key can do, if misused: posting or voting with your account.

No financial transactions. No card or other Splinterlands asset transactions.

PS: After HF26, I also don't recommend having HP in such accounts, to avoid any temptations. Only RCs.

For a bot to perform this well, it must have collected tonnes of battle data to learn of how people place their lineup.

I'm sure it does. I'm curious how quickly it adapts to changing metas.

I am glad to hear that the bot is doing well. Curiosity question - is it really entertaining to just let a bot play instead of playing yourself?

It's not entertaining. But it's not frustrating either.

I miss playing the game, but without a target because it became way too frustrating trying to reach them while the competition level increased (much of the competition from such bots).

I have a few bot accounts but they are only set up to reach silver leagues and play a limited amount of cards. It's fun to let them grind away every day and earn a few extra rewards but if i let it loose in the main account that would be interesting.

Seems like it should perform about the same as i would with a lot less time wasted on gameplay. The problem is that i enjoy playing far too much to bot it.

It seems like a good option to have in the pocket.

That's the problem. I would enjoy it too if it wouldn't be so frustrating sometimes (more and more often lately). But I'll start playing again, at least partially, from next season.

Yeah, the "luck" factor drives me nuts. lol I don't mind losing when I get beat, but I absolutely hate it when my two poison cards don't hit for 3 turns each while my opponents 1 poison card hits three turns in a row. That and the "missing" are going to shorten my life by a few years....

Oh, I don't like getting beaten, lol. Especially in close ones. I don't mind when an opponent simply runs all over my lineup every once in a while, particularly if that was because he/she had better cards or better strategy, NOT because of luck. That makes me want to be better/improve my deck.

Great review. I also started the bot after your previous post. Also surprised at how well it does the job! But I'll also play with my hands and not to lose the understanding of the game and because I like it...

I'll continue playing too. I'll just leave this season entirely to the bot, (until before the EOS, when I'll rent the cards out), to see its performance on its own. Next season I'll start playing some games too in the Wild format, to not lose my skill.

It looks like the bot is doing quite well for you but I wonder how it will work for a less optimized deck. My deck tends to have a lot of underleveled cards so I don't think the bot will do as well as I would like.

I have a bot in bronze too. Last season it worked pretty well. This season I wasn't paying much attention to it, I should've tweaked it a bit.
