Splinterlands Pre-Proposal System Started Being Used

avatar

As I mentioned in my Week through Adrian's Lenses post, Splinterlands came with an informal way to gather sentiment from the SPS stakeholders via a sort of community-started pre-proposals.

Their announcement was soon led by two pre-proposals being published, one by the Splex dev, for testing, and the other one by the PeakMonsters team, a valid one, meaning they actually burned 100k DEC to create it.

Since then, both teams have created interfaces where these pre-proposals can be seen and voted on.

Here's what the page from PeakMonsters for pre-proposals looks like:

image.png

There are currently 4 pre-proposals asking for approval. If approved (approval criteria same as for regular DAO proposals).

If one proposal is approved and the Splinterlands team agrees (for now, while they are the only ones who can add proposals), then a pre-proposal is advanced to a full proposal status and added for a vote on the Splinterlands website.

To vote for pre-proposals (for example I'll use the PeakMonsters interface), you need to go to the pre-proposals page, make sure you are logged in with the account where you have your SPS staked, and after considering each pre-proposal, vote it up or down.

Let's take each pre-proposal we have now for a vote and look at the pros and cons, from my own perspective.

1. PeakMonsters' Pre-Proposal

Check the pre-proposal out!

Basically, this is a test proposal. They burned 100k DEC to ask for 1 SPS in return. And they already did the initial work they ask payment for, which is this pre-proposal page they added to PeakMonsters.

Pros:

  • almost everything

Cons:

  • nothing really (if you can think of anything, let me know, lol)

2. 28m More Staked by the DAO

Check the pre-proposal out!

Currently, @sps.dao has 2m SPS staked out of roughly 58m. This pre-proposal aims for an additional 28m SPS to be staked by the DAO, to reach 30m.

Pros:

  • more staked SPS by the DAO, means more SPS the DAO will get from the staking rewards, which means more things can be done by the DAO once the SPS inflation ends, or for a longer period of time
  • with a higher stake, the DAO captures the additional benefits associated with holding staked SPS, except the governance voting power (DAO doesn't vote): VOUCHERs, GLX airdrop

Cons:

  • more staked SPS by the DAO means less staking rewards for every other SPS stakeholder (6.3% less, they calculated, at current numbers).
  • in the pre-proposal text, there was a mention of the possibility to sell the GLX airdrop to buy DEC (which would be the subject of another proposal); I wanted to say that even mentioning it seems like a bad idea; while the DAO is for the Splinterlands platform, the GLX airdrop was made to attract the existing playerbase to the new platform Splinterlands is developing, and not to encourage cannibalizing it, and while individual investors are entitled to any decision, the SPS DAO cannibalizing GLS is not something that should be even considered

3. Promo card for SPS stakeholders

Check the pre-proposal out!

In short, if approved, the DAO wants the Splinterlands company to create a promo card for SPS stakeholders. Max 1 BCX per 1000 SPS purchasable with 1 VOUCHER each.

Pros:

  • showcases the first use case where SPS DAO rewards users
  • it is mentioned in the pre-proposal text that the Splinterlands company will not want payment for their services from the SPS DAO for the time being
  • some VOUCHERs will be burned (collateral benefit)

Cons:

  • even if it doesn't cost the DAO anything to produce the promo cards, it will cost the Splinterlands team time they can use to focus on something else

4. "Land Potions"

Check the pre-proposal out!

Double chances to get better-than-common rarity plots and Magical or Occupied plots when surveying land.

Pros:

  • burns DEC
  • burns VOUCHERs
  • double chances to get better-than-common rarity plots and Magical or Occupied plots when surveying land

Cons:

  • significant cost for land owners - not all of them whales! - paid upfront (it's something you have to pay, or you consciously devalue your plots); on the flipside, land owners received SPS rewards for a good amount of time, without any land gameplay; I guess we will see more SPS sell pressure
  • we don't know the formulas for rarity chances and land categories chances and how doubling chances affect them

By the looks of it, all 4 pre-proposals will go to a vote (if Splinterlands agrees).

The highest support is for pre-proposals 1 and 3. On the edge (but not really), are pre-proposals 2 and 4.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. I'm not sure about these tbh.

I haven't voted. They seem to pass anyway. Maybe I'll make up my mind until they are up for the real vote.

Nice summary and I am inclined to consider proposals 1 and 3, while I hate 3 and I am moderate to 4. We shall see which will go through...

Yeah, of the 4, I dislike the 2nd the most too.

Thanks for the updates; like many others, I too am more oriented towards proposals 1 and 3.
In any case, I rely on the more experienced and more experienced users, the right choices will surely be made.

Well, if you like them, then vote for them! We all need to get used to participating in governance, even if we have a small say.

Yep, so far, so clear on these proposals. I wonder how the process will develop further. In any case, not a bad test of the system.

Probably this pre-proposal system will disappear, once the Splinterlands team won't be the only one capable to create proposals. It's a transitionary phase that will be used to allow some community proposals to go to the vote and will give some real-use feedback to the Splinterlands team, helpful for developing the proposal system with users being able to create proposals.

It already sounds very long). It will be interesting in general!

I appreciate your comment, even though you probably know little about Splinterlands, Barb. ;)

It helps to get some ideals out there and to get some discussion happening on DAO.

Yes, it does. And I think Splinterlands created a channel to discuss these pre-proposals too.

I really like how you summarized all of them in a compact form. Good analysis, cheers!
