Fighting Titans - A David vs Goliath Story | Brawls

Being part of an active guild for Brawls has brought all kinds of challenges and cool experiences. After a couple months of these wars against other guilds, I was used to see bigger accounts than mine; most of them were (if not all of them). So, As I fill my fray battles to defend my guild's honor, I always encounter great collection power among contestants. It usually goes from 1M to 3M. That tells me the probability of facing Alpha, Betha and promo cards can be high, and I try to face the battle thinking about that. On of the hardest frays to defend in my opinion are Gold foil frays. Unless you have been here since the beginning without selling anything, you would probably not have many Gold cards. I currently have 27 different cards counting one legendary and one Gladiator among my maze. For the last Brawl, I rented Gold foil summoners, cards for my light and earth splinters, and received help from @mathieu33 with a good number of cards. During this brawl, I noticed some of the greatest Guilds were part of the contestants. IG and IG2, NEOXIAN, and Team possible high teams were there. Only 35 Guilds are currently playing tier two brawls, so it is logic to think you might encounter those beast sooner or later.

The moment for battle came, and I started to fill my frays to the best of my abilities and cards held. I did noticed my opponents were higher in collection power than usual. 3M to 7M was a frequent number.

When I get to my fifth battle... I see a name we all know well: @cryptomancer. ok, I was scared. Then, I see his collection power, nothing less than 9.9 million points!!! that's incredible and scary. That account must possess dozens of Gold foil cards to pick from. There was no time to think so I started building my team thinking what would be best. I used three rented cards, three of my own, and the summoner borrowed from @mathieu33. I chose earth splinter as it is one I play the most with. My card alignment was as follows:

Card Alignment

I placed a tank with good speed, decent attack and void against magic attacks. Little I knew that was going to be a life saver. Then a sub meele card with reach followed by two sneak cards Goblin thief and sand worm. Lastly I placed a healer Wood Nimph (one of my favorites) and finally, I had to fill the gap. I didn't have a good card to complement my strategy, so I just picked a good meele card with fly thinking it could dodge some sneak attack and survive for a while to protect my Nimph as she heals the tank.

I finally get to see the Cryptomancer choices: +8 in magic attack, +13 in meele attack, alpha cards, and the cherry on top of the cake was a Gladiator card: Trapp Falloway.I was preparing my losing speech for my guild "sorry guys, I did my best, but the opponents were titans!... I couldn't do much", yet I really received a surprise.

WATCH THE BATTLE HERE

By the end of the first round, my tank was half way in life, my healer almost dead due to the rival's summoner ability, yet I managed to defeat on of the greatest threads, the sand worm.

Next round, I lost my healer, my tank is almost dead, but I manage to defeat another rival card.

My unicorn Mustang speed allowed me to defeat his Mech Goblin first. Having the minotaur helped resist some attacks while my sneakers did all the job defeating the magic enemies. It came down to four of my cards against one gladiator with Bloodlust activated. The minotaur took all the damage and the sneak attacks defeated the last of Cryptomancer's cards... wait, I won? I won!!

I was so exited I ran to my guild's chat to tell the story. Then, some of them had similar stories (one played against Neoxian account with 20M collection power). I truly felt like small wimpy David fighting against Goliath on that battle. It certainly lifted my morale for the remaining battles.

I certainly had a LOT of luck in this fight, having a healer and a tank with void helped greatly. Also double sneak proved as efficient as always. I never thought I could win against one of the dev from the game, and it is also nice to see them play. I was a great surprise with a lucky end for me.

With the double shield rule, common sense would force the use of magic attack cards to cause direct damage to health, it was a great decision on your part to place the unicorn mustang in the first position because with its void ability it repels that kind of damage. Great, congratulations.

That certainly granted my tank survival for a couple turns!

I enjoy playing the game, as that helps me to be a better developer and make sure the game is working as intended. Besides which it's a lot of fun! I was a player first before I joined the Splinterlands team.

That was a great battle and you definitely deserved the win with your superior strategy. It just took me too long to get through your Unicorn Mustang. Congrats, I'm glad you are enjoying the Brawls!
