BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Five Alive Ruleset

image.png

Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on a new Splinterlands ruleset, Five Alive. This is a relatively new ruleset that was introduced not too long ago.

Five Alive
In normal circumstances we can used up to six units in a match. However in a Five Alive ruleset, only up to five units can be used.

Now let's take a look at a Wild Silver ranked match with Five Alive as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Five Alive and Heavy Hitters with a max mana of 59. All splinters are allowed in this battle except Fire. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Helios Matriarch6SummonerThe first thought that crossed my mind when I said the rulesets was "Wow 59 mana to use but I can only deployed 5 units". The second thought was I needed to use unit with Stun to also take advantage of the Heavy Hitters ruleset. I thus decided to go with a Dragon summoner and then used Death as a support splinter. This was because Dragon summoner allowed me to use Dragon units where there are many high mana units and Death splinter also allowed me to use Revealer which has Stun. Thus I chose Helios Matriarch which is my highest level Dragon summoner.
Night Ghoul111stNight Ghoul was my tank. It has good armor and health and has Taunt as well. Its function was to to draw my opponent attacks away from my offensive but weaker units at the back.
Carnage Titan112ndCarnage Titan was my first offensive unit. It had a high melee attack and Double Strike ability. It also has Reach ability which makes it ideal to sit in the second position. If the opponent tank ever get stunned, Carnage Titan would destroyed it quick.
Chaos Dragon143rdI was looking for a high mana attacker that can hit from the back at the third position and Chaos Dragon fit the bill. Chaos Dragon has a good magic attack with Blast ability. Only issue was with Scattershot, you would need some luck on where Chaos Dragon's magic attack will land.
Revealer44thRevealer was my only unit here with Stun ability. Revealer only costs 4 mana but its ability to stun was important in this match because of the Heavy Hitters ruleset. Heavy Hitters ruleset means any unit that got stunned would be suffered double damage when hit and thus I felt having Revealer in the lineup was important.
Drybone Raider125thAnother high mana unit with Double Strike ability. I was going with units with Double Strike because doing double attack on a stunned enemy caused more damage.
Total Mana:58

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went with a Earth splinter lineup with Lobb Lowland as the summoner. It was obvious my opponent didn't make use of the high mana allowed in the match.

End of Round 1:

The opponent had Arkemis the Bear as the tank. Although it is a good tank, it couldn't handle the massive attack from my Chaos Dragon, Carnage Titan and Night Ghoul and died in the first round. This was even after my opponent divert my focus attack with a Taunt unit in Mycelic Slipspawn. In fact the opponent Mycelic Slipspawn was also heavily injured in the first round after being stunned by my Revealer and then attack by my Drybone Raider which incurred double damage on the Slipspawn.

My tank, on the other hand, took on all the enemy attacks and survived.

End of Round 2:

Start of second round saw my Chaos Dragon taking out the enemy Uraeus with a single hit. This was followed by my Carnage Titan taking out the opponent's weakened Thane Newsong and more importantly Katrelba Gobson. Gobson is a Gladiator unit with Bloodlust and taking it out was very important.

My opponent last unit, Mycelic Slipspawn, was then stunned again by my small little Revealer and was easily dispatched off by my Drybone Raider.

KEY STRATEGY
As this was a Five Alive ruleset match, my strategy was to deploy high mana units to try to take advantage of the high mana limit in the match. The high mana units was also supported by a small unit Revealer for its Stun ability. This was to take advantage of the other ruleset, Heavy Hitters.

The strategy works very well as the match was won within just 2 rounds.
