BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Lost Magic Ruleset

Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Lost Magic.

Lost Magic

In a Lost Magic ruleset, units with magic attack cannot not be used in battle. While this ruleset looks simple, it is actually pretty fun to play around with as there are a lot of abilities that are very effective to use in a No Magic fight.

Lets take a look at a Modern Silver ranked match with Lost Magic as one of the ruleset. The battle conditions are:
Super Sneak and Lost Magic with a max mana of 23. Only Water, Earth, Life and Dragon splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Kelya Frendal4SummonerKelya is the first summoner I think of when I saw the Lost Magic ruleset. This is because Kelya has a +1 armor bonus which will effectively block a range or melee attack.
Cruel Sethropod31stGood low cost tank with adequate armor and health. With Kelya, I can add more armor to its already high armor. Armor is very important in a No Magic ruleset.
Tide Biter32ndA good 2nd unit with Reach ability meaning it can also attack from behind the Cruel Sethropod. It also has Reflection Shield, making it a very good 2nd position unit.
Pelacor Bandit33rdMy Sneak attacking backline to pick off enemy backline
Clockwork Aide44thI don't use this unit much. While I love its Swift ability, I dislike its cost. But in a No Magic lineup, its huge armor would make it a very good back tank in additional to giving +1 speed to all my units.
Uraeus35thMy 2nd Sneak unit to pick off enemy backline.
Venari Marksrat36thI am expecting Sneak units from the opposing side so putting Venari Marksrat here to tank and sacrifice. Marksrat's Martyr would make my Uraeus even stronger and faster.
Total Mana:23

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went for Water splinter lineup with Keyla as the summoner as well. Apparently the aim of my opponent is to use Double Strike ability of Coastal Sentry to make quick work of my backline. Only issue is Coastal Sentry is a high mana unit and because of that my opponent can only field 4 units against 6 units of mine. But some of my opponent's units were of higher level so lets see how it went.

End of Round 1:

Not surprisingly, I lost my Venari Marksrat very quickly to my opponent stronger back units. But my Venari Marksrat gave my Uraeus's stats a boost with its Martyr ability and it means my Uraeus will attack first in the next round. In fact most of my units will attack first because I also got a boost in speed from my Clockwork Aide.

End of Round 2:

My opponent's Deeplurker was killed before it can attack while I also lost my Uraeus later in the round. But it is a good trade because Deeplurker costs much more mana to deploy.

End of Round 3:

With the death of my Clockwork Aide, it now looked like a very close fight at this point. Both my back units have 5 speed vs my opponent's Coastal Sentry which also has 5 speed. If the Coast Sentry moves first, it can potential kill off my Pelacor Bandit and remove the armor of my Tide Biter. But my opponent will need quite a bit of luck for that to happen plus my Pelacor Bandit also has Flying which makes it harder to be hit.

End of Round 4:

Turned out my Tider Biter hit first and killed off my opponent's Coastal Sentry before it can attack. It now appeared I have won the match.

End of Round 6:

Even though my Cruel Sethropod was of lower level than my opponent and eventually got eliminated, my opponent still lost as my back units won the day.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to use armor to outlast my opponent as I know I am not facing a magic unit lineup.

SUMMARY
There are some very good abilities to use in a Lost Magic fight. One of those better ones are Protect (gives 2 armor), Rust (reduces 2 armor), Shield (ranged and melee damage get halved) and Repair (Restores 2 armor).

Dodge, Flying, Blind and Swift are another set of strategy that is very effective in No Magic ruleset. In fact No Magic ruleset is quite fun to play around with since there are a lot of combinations you can come out with.

My guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is also looking for new members. For added incentive to joining us, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.
