BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Weak Magic Ruleset

Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Weak Magic.

In a Weak Magic ruleset, Magic will hits armor first before hitting health.

Armor is thus very important in this ruleset.

Lets take a look at a Wild Silver ranked match with Weak Magic as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Up to Eleven and Weak Magic with a max mana of 30. Only Fire, Water, Earth and Life splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Kelya Frendal4SummonerI decided to go with Kelya for this match because Kelya gave +1 Armor and Speed to all my units. Armor was extremely important in this battle as Kelya's armor basically allowed my units to sustain one additional hit.
Noa the Just51stNoa had the Rust ability that will reduce all opposing units armor by 2. If my opponent used Kelya as the summoner as well, this will counter the +1 armor from opposing Kelya.
DeepLurker62ndWith the opposing team losing the armor, it will allowed my DeepLurker to start targetting low health enemy units via the Opportunity ability. Kulu Mastermind would have been the perfect unit at this position though but I don't have that unit.
Scavo Hireling33rdI need an armor repairer to keep my team armor up. Only issue with Scavo Hireling though was its low health.
Venari Wavesmith54thVenari Wavesmith gave my whole lineup an extra 2 armor per unit. It made my lineup much tougher to kill regardless of what attacks the opponent threw at me.
Riverboat Captain65thRiverboat Captain's Blast ability allowed me to deal more spread damage thus further reducing more opposing units' armor and health. Riverboat Captain also has the Affliction ability that will prevent healing on the enemy tank.
Hardy Stonefish16thJust a buffer small tank at the back of my lineup. It can also be used to lure opposing units with Opportunity.
Total Mana:30

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went with a Water splinter lineup with Kelya as well as the summoner. That was expected. Seeing the opposing tank though worried me. Diemonshark is a great unit to use in the Weak Magic ruleset as it has good armor and health. What was even more worrying though was the opponent deploy River Hellondale, which can revive the Diemonshark if it died first.

End of Round 1:

The battle starts with my Noa removing the opposing units armor and then my DeepLurker killing off the opposing unit Torrent Fiend. This trigger the Resurrect ability of River Hellondale. So River Hellondale's Resurrect ability was wasted on the Torrent Fiend rather than Diemonshark. That was a big relief.

End of Round 2:

I took out the enemy Hardy Stonefish in this round but my Scavo Hireling was now exposed and will die in the next round. What was scary though was the opposing Diemonshark was now enraged and could hit with 5 melee damage per round.

End of Round 3:

Things didn't look that good at the end of round 3. I lost my Scavo Hireling and Hardy Stonefish and my Noa was dying as well. The opponent units would gain back 2 armor per unit when my Noa died. Good thing the opponent Diemonshark was also dying. It was a very closed fight.

End of Round 4:

I lost my Noa which cause the opponent to gain back some armor at the back. Not only that but the enemy Diemonshark did a trample and hit my DeepLurker as well. That Diemonshark sure did a hella of damage to my lineup before dying to my DeepLurker. There was a 40% chance of my Deeplurker missing though and it could had been over at that point for me.

End of Round 5:

Both our DeepLurker died in this round leaving us with 2 units each. Still a very close call as I had a lineup with higher damage but the opponent units are faster.

End of Round 6:

The opponent attack was not focused at one point which allowed me to kill off the opponent unit first.

End of Round 7:

We ended up with 1 unit each left by end of Round 7 as the opponent unit has faster speed and took out my Venari Wavesmith.

End of Round 8:

I won this with only 1 unit with 1 health left. It was definitely a very close call for me in this fight as my opponent also had a good idea what to do in a Weak Magic ruleset.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to remove the opponent armor while boosting my armor. But without Kulu Mastermind's Weapon training, my attack is a bit low. It almost didn't work but I have some luck going my way.

OTHER STRATEGY
Other strategies that work well in a Weak Magic ruleset include having a unit with Resurrect reviving a unit with high armor. This is exactly what my opponent tried to do but it is a more complex process as you need to hope that the one you want to revive die first.

Units with Shatter ability are also very useful in this ruleset. This means Immortalis is also a very good summoner to use in a Weak Magic ruleset. Astral Entity is also a good summoner to use as it has the ability to remove 2 armor from every units in the opponent lineup. In short, see what splinter is available for you to decide which summoner to use.
