Dragon is a unique Splinter that allows you to use Dragons plus another splinter units in your battle lineup. The condition is your summoner must be a dragon summoner in the first place.

Here is a 48 Mana Limited Battle with Spreading Fury and Broken Arrows Rulesets where I used a Dragon Summoner + Water team to fight against a Pure Water team.

My Team Setup:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Quix the Devious4SummonerExpecting the opponent to go with Water but don't know if the opponent would go with melee or magic lineup. Decided to go with Dragon and use Void Dragon as tank as it can tank magic with its Void abilities and tank melee with its high speed.
Void Dragon51stAmazing tank. with Void and high speed. Can tank magic, melee or ranged.
Carnage Titan112ndDouble strike with Reach ability. Only problem is his base damage is low considering it cost 11 mana to summon him. But he will make a good 2nd tank if Void Dragon died.
Nerissa Tridawn93rdMine damage dealer here. 3 magic attack is scary as it skip shield.
Deeplurker64thUse to pick off the enemy unit with the lowest remaining hp.
Magi of Chaos65th2nd magic dealer to hit opposing main tank. 2 magic attack is quite scary as well.
Disintegrator76thUse to decrease enemy melee unit damage by 1. Don't underestimate the usefulness of this unit.
Total Mana:48

Battle Lineup:
Round 1 Start:

My opponent went with Water as expected. It is a very standard Water lineup with Serpent of Eld as the main tank and Flying Squid as the 2nd tank. Diemonshark is probably a better choice here than Serpent of Eld but that is a personal opinion. Sometime Serpent of Eld works better with its higher dodge. But in my case I was using a magic attack lineup so dodge doesn't help much here.

Round 2 Start:

The opponent's tank didn't last through the first round whereas my Void Dragon managed to dodge a few melee attack and is standing tall. Notice because of the Spreading Fury ruleset, my Void Dragon speed has increased to 8 after getting hit!

Round 3 Start:

Amazingly Void Dragon survived passed round 2. Meanwhile the opposing 2nd tank is dying already. It is a foregone conclusion who will win this match.

Round 4 Start:

Void Dragon was killed in this round but it has served its purpose. In fact the opposing 2nd tank died before my Void Dragon. At this point, it is just mopping up the remaining enemy units.

Key Differences in Setup
As we can see I used a mixture of Dragon and Water units while the opponent used a pure Water units setup. I uses a magic heavy attack backline while the opponent uses a pure melee line with a healer. On hindsight, Diemonshark should do better in the opponent setup cause if the tank hp is too low, it cannot last till it can be heal.

Conclusion on Dragons
I like dragons a lot as there are a couple of Dragon units that are way more powerful than a normal splinter unit. Void dragon for example is an amazing tank. Carnage Titan is an amazing 2nd tank if you can add in a +1 melee summoner or a unit with Inspire. There are also certain Dragon summoners that does amazingly well on certain rulesets. For example using Brighton Bloom in an Earthquake ruleset can give flight to all your units and thus eliminating the Earthquake damage that you would normally suffer.

The only big issue with Dragons is most of its units need a lot of mana to summon. So in low mana matches, you would find it hard to use Dragon units.

Last but not least, here is why Diemonshark or not, Dragon would still win.

Thanks for the good post. I was thinking about that Void Dragon with my Byzantine Kitty and this ruleset, speed would have been 10! Would have been quite hard to hit.

Yes it will be near impossible to hit. Every speed difference gives you 10% chance to dodge. Then you have fly which gives you another 25%. If the opponent is only speed 1 or 2, they have zero chance of hitting you. 😅

Yeah, I think speed is pretty neglected, at least I haven't thought of that much. But I definitely should!
