The Cruel Sethropod is a Melee Monster, member of the Water Splinter, of common quality. Its low mana cost and good amount of starting health and shield makes it a good option for a budget tank in low-mana matches as well as Little League ones.

Now before getting into the stats discussion of the Monster, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE
So it turns out the that the Sethropod did not get the Cruel part of their name for nothing. Sailor or not, you really do not want to get anywhere near this sea creature.

Okay, now that we have a vague idea of who or what the Cruel Sethropod is, let us have a look at its stats and abilities at the key different levels.

  • It starts off with no special ability at level 1. In fact it does not get any special ability at any level at all. That is actually pretty common for Common cards, especially those which cost a low amount of mana. It starts off with 1 Attack, 1 Speed, 3 Shield and 4 Health.
  • At leve 2 it gains an additional Speed point which brings the total to 2.
  • At level 3 it gains an additional attack point, bringing the total to 2.
  • At level 5 which is the max level for Silver League, it gains one more Health point for a total of 5.
  • Finally maxxed out at level 10 the Monster has 3 Attack, 2 Speed, 6 Armor and 7 Health, which are pretty good stats for a 3-mana budget melee tank.

Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the two battles (because they are pretty quick) I have chosen to showcase.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE 1<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:

So with the mana restriction of 38, I can build a well-balanced team which is especially important in this case since we have the Explosive Weaponry ruleset in play. So it is very important to be able to soak any damage coming up front and any damage coming from behind. This is why I opted to use the Cruel Sethropod as a Main Tank in the 1st spot. There is also one more reason but later about that.

The 2nd place in the line-up goes to the Flying Squid. I have it there specifically to soak the damage coming in from the Explosive Weaponry hits on the Sethropod. It is basically a must to protect your main damage dealers from splash damage as much as possible if you want to win the battle with this ruleset.

The 3rd place in the line-up goes to the Creeping Ooze. I use it specifically to make sure my Monsters' turns are ahead of those of my opponent. The more of your Monsters go before those of your opponent, the more splash damage and potential losses you have the chance to inflict to them.

The forth spot in the line-up is for the Axemaster. I really like this card and more or less include it in my line-up every time I choose to play the Water Splinter (if the mana threshold allows it). It is a really, really good damage dealer with its Double Strike. And Double Strike could be huge pair with Explosive Weaponry.

The fifth position goes to my favorite legendary card - Djinn Oshannus. I've got it here to soak potential magic damage going to the sixth Monster. It is also really fast, has a chance to dodge Magic attacks pointed at it, and takes reduced damage from Magic attacks that do hit it. It is a really well-rounded card.

In the last spot for this line-up came the Wave Brood. I used it in the last spot for the sole reason of splitting up a bit the enemy's DPS (Taunt ability) so it is not focused only on my tank and off-tank Monsters. In Equalizer matches you really need to focus your fire on one and the same target so you get it down as fast as possible. And this is why the Cruel Sethropod works in the firs spot as most of the damage will be initially focused on the Wave Brood

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • I have chosen to go with my favorite Water Splinter Summoner, namely Kelya, who is at level 4 (max for Silver League), as for the enemy - they have chosen to go with a level 4 Tarsa, so at least summoner-wise the battle starts off evenly. Let's see how this one goes.

  • After 1 round, there are no casualties but the enemy's tank and off-tank as well as my Wave Brood and Oshannus have been badly bruised from the direct hits and splash damage (as expected).

  • At the start of Round 3 I have managed to take down both their front Monsters, while they've tanken down the Cruel Sehropod and Wave Brood. I do seem to have an advantage though, as there is no other Monster in their team which could target my Djinn Oshannus so it will survive and do more damage as a whole. Let us not forget that I also have +1 Speed from Kelya and I am still debuffing the enemy team with -1 Speed from the Ooze.

  • Round 4 is here and all I have left is to finish off the enemy's last minion. A well-deserved victory for my brave warriors as far as I am concerned.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE 2<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>

  • Let us begin with the line-up and the Ruleset:

So this time around the mana restriction is a lot tighter and I will have to improvise a bit. Note that we have the Super Sneak Ruleset in play which is important for the way I choose my line-up. I am going with this week's protagonist in first spot again. It is totally fine for me to do that because my plan is to back it up with another Monster which could also cause serious troubles to the enemy Monsters due to the ruleset.

The 2nd place goes to the Serpent of Eld. It is by far my favorite Water Splinter tank. It is crazy good against melee and ranged non-magic attacks due to its high speed and the fact that it also has the Dodge ability which improves its chance to dodge the aforementioned types of attacks significantly. Not to mention it also has 4 attack so it does pack a punch.

The third spot out of the blue goes to the Pelacor Bandit. It is another very hard to hit with normal attacks card due to its swiftness and the fact that it is also a flying Monster. You can see the leitmotif this time around - I'm purposefully picking hard-to-hit Monsters to impede the enemy's backdoor attempts.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • As we can see I have again opted for my level 4 Kelya - I have no other level 4 summoner, so don't judge me 😁. On the other hand the enemy is rocking a level 2 Kelya. I have the edge due to the level difference between the two of us but that still does not mean the game is an auto win.

image.png

  • After 1 round, my Sethropod has lost its armor and a point of health while I've only manage to hit the enemy unit once and take off their armor. So that's spells a bit of trouble for my team.

image.png

  • At the start of Round 3 I have lost my Sethropod and they have lost their Pixie, now it is time for my Serpent of Eld to shine, or not..😁

image.png

  • Round 4 the Serpent of Eld has taken a hit from the Sea Monster, and has lost its armor while my Pelacor Banding has been doing work on the enemy's pirate at the back.

image.png

  • Round 5 and the Pirate is down which is good news for me, however, my Serpent of Eld is one hit away from dying, which is really, really bad news for me. May the Dodge Force be with us! 😁

image.png

  • Round 6 the Pelacor Bandit is trying to catch dinner chasing the chicken around while the Serpent of Eld is still playing "Miss me, miss me, now you've gotta kiss me" with the enemy's Sea Monster. 🤣

image.png

  • Round 7 is in and the Pelacor Bandit has successfully grilled the enemy's chicken. I'm sure it's really tasting, however, we still have a Sea Monster to slay, and miraculously the Serpent of Eld is still alive and somewhat kicking. 😜

image.png

  • Midway through Round 7 and I have somehow managed to slay the Sea Monster and have chicken simultaneously. Leeroy Jenkins would be proud. 😎

The Cruel Sethropod is a fairly priced (in terms of mana) budget tank from the Water Splinter, which will definitely rarely be your MVP, but is a very nice Monster to support your defensive efforts for sure. It can definitely fit a lot of low to mid mana budget games as well as the often appearing Little League ruleset.
