The Portal Spinner is a ranged Monster, member of the Life Splinter. I think there are very few people left in the community without at least one BCX of it as @clove71 was handing it out right, left and center during her streams until not long ago 😁. Jokes aside, it could be a pretty useful addition to the Life line-up, especially when paired with General Sloan.

Now before we get into the stats discussion of the Portal Spinner, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE

Well it seems that the Portals Spinners are some sort of dark mages wannabes, who'd rather use their portals to launch random attacks at their enemies than travel through them as their name might suggest.

Alright, we've got some idea of what the Portal Spinner is, after glancing at its lore. Let us now have a look at its stats and abilities at different key levels.

image.png

  • At level 1 it has 2 ranged attack, 2 speed, 1 armor and 3 health. It also starts off with its signature ability which is Scatter Shot (this Monster's attacks hit a random enemy target) Scatter Shot can be very useful in situations when hitting other enemies but the one in the tanking spot, or the one with taunt, is vital.
  • At level 4, it gains an additional ranged attack point for a total of 3 (max for Silver League).
  • At level 5 it gains its second ability which was mentioned in the lore section -> Snare (when attacking a Monster with the Flying ability, it removes the Flying ability and cannot miss).
  • Finally, maxed out at level 8 it has 4 ranged attack, 3 speed, 2 armor and 5 health. Not too shabby at all.

Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the battle I have chosen to showcase.

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Rule set:

The rule sets for this battle are Heavy Hitters (All monsters do double damage when attacking an enemy that is stunned) and Healed Out (no type of healing is allowed in the battle). I don't normally pay attention to Heavy Hitters as I was playing in Silver until the Modern/Wild formats came out and in Silver there are barely any Monsters with stun, Now that I am trying to play in Gold I should probably start paying more attention to it. As for Healed Out, you should always be careful not to auto-include the healing Monsters precisely because of this rule set. The mana budget is 56 which basically allows for any combo of Monsters to be used. I have decided to use my level 2 Grandmaster Rathe as Summoner this battle so I will start off with Blinding Reflector in the main tanking spot.

image.png

image.png

Following immediately after the Blinding Reflector is Adelade Brightwing. It is just level 1 so I won't take advantage of her ability to raise the first killed allied Monster but I include her for her armor repair which is very potent when paired with Grandmaster Rathe.

image.png

image.png

The 3rd place in the line-up goes to the Scavo Hireling. It is included again for the same reason as Adelade - the repair ability.

image.png

image.png

The 4th spot is for our main protagonist in this week's share your battle challenge, namely the Portal Spinner. I have it here as it is a bit tankier and can take a few hits if the situation is so dire that it has to take the main tank spot.

image.png

image.png

5th in the line-up is the Pecalor Arbalest. It is the damage powerhouse in this setup with its 2 shots per turn so I am hopeful that it will manage to shine.

image.png

image.png

Last but definitely not least is the Prismologist. With its 4 ranged attack and explosive damage, it can actually take the MVP spot from the Pelacor Arbalest should it has the chance to do so. It's in the last spot of the line-up to protect the back-line from enemy Sneak units as it can definitely take a few hits with its 2 armor and 5 health.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • As I have mention the Summoner I am going with in this battle is a level 2 Grandmaster Rathe. It is not of the appropriate level for Gold, I know, but this is what I have, so this is what I play. 😁 This also means that even though some of my Monsters are leveled up for low Gold (level 5 summoner levels) I will use them at their max Silver league potential. My enemy, on the other hand, has chosen to go with a level 5 Thaddius, so they might have an upper hand as far as their ability to include Gold level Monsters goes.

image.png

  • After 1 round, even though the enemy has 3 gold league level legendaries on the field, I seem to have a slight edge as my dual repair setup + spell reflect + amplify from Grandmaster Rathe, does wonders for me against the enemy casters and their line-up as a whole.

image.png

  • Start of Round 3 - the enemy team has been basically wrecked. All that is left from it is their most resilient Monsters which will take a while to be taken down.

image.png

  • Beginning of Round 4, I am still wailing on the two enemy survivors and I have definitely made progress.

image.png

  • Round 5 - the last Monster remaining for the enemy is about to fall. A flawless victory for my dual repair setup.

The Portal Spinner is a great specialized ranged attacker for the Life Splinter. It is specifically great for cases where you need a unit to land a potential killing blows on targets placed in spots no-one else can attack. The Portal Spinner currently valued at $0.077 per BCX, so there is literally no reason not to pick up as many copies as you need to get it leveled up to the appropriate level of the league you compete in.
