The Scavo Firebolt is a Ranged Monster, member of the Fire Splinter, of a rare quality. Its relatively low mana cost and good amount of starting health make it a decent unit to support its melee comrades or partake in ranged setups empowered by Yodin Zaku. It does, however, mean that it is not a carry Monster so do not expect miracles from the little fellow.
Now before getting into the stats discussion of the Monster, let's have a sneak peek into its lore:

Living within the Realm of Silence, the mole-like race of Scavo were affected by the toxic gas from the Mountain of Ash. They became highly intelligent and worked diligently to protect their home from the blight. Scavo Firebolts were particularly changed by their proximity to the magma, developing the ability to summon and launch bolts of fire from their palms. They defend their home by launching these fire bolts from great distances. Approaching enemies don't even realize the danger until fire begins to rain from above. Those that are incapacitated are especially vulnerable.

So these little fellows might turn out to be not that bad after all. I am already used to having to showcase some Monsters with rather gruesome story backgrounds, so those that are neutral or good are always a breath of fresh air.

Okay, now that we have a vague idea of who or what the Scavo Firebolt is, let us have a look at its stats and abilities at the key different levels.

  • It starts off with no special ability at level 1. I would say that this is not usual for rare level Monsters as they usually start off more powerful than their common level brothers-in-arms.
  • At leve 2 it gains an additional speed point which brings the total to 3.
  • At level 4 it gains an additional ranged attack point, bringing the total to 3, which means that it can be worth it to have it upgraded to level 4 when using a level 4 Summoner (maxxed out for Silver League).
  • At level 6 it gains Knock Out (Does double damage when attacking an enemy that is stunned) which is generally better than nothing for sure but I find it rather niche as in order for it to take effect you need to set it up with other Monsters.
  • Finally maxxed out at level 8 the Monster has 4 ranged attack, 4 speed, and 6 health, which are pretty good stats for a 4-mana ranged Monster.

Now that we know what the card does at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the two battles (because they are pretty quick) I have chosen to showcase.

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:

So with the mana restriction of 99, I can basically use any six Monster in the game and still I would probably have 20-30 leftover points. Now that we have established that the mana is not an issue at all, it is more than natural for me to go with some beefy Monster at the front. However, The second factor plays a lot bigger role here than the mana restriction itself. We have an Explosive Weaponry Ruleset in play. This is why I chose to go with Grum Flameblade as my main tank. At level 2 its magic damage mitigation is pretty good, so I expect it to survive for quite some time, and I also have a hunch that my opponent will go for at least a few magic attackers in their line-up.

The 2nd place in the line-up goes to the Living Lava. I have it there specifically to soak the damage coming in from the Explosive Weaponry hits on Grum. It is basically a must to protect your main damage dealers from splash damage as much as possible if you want to win the battle with this ruleset.

The 3rd place in the line-up goes to the Sand Worm. Even though we are not on the planet Dune, Sand Worm are still pretty mighty in the world of Splinterlands as well. It is by far my favorite Sneak Monster even though its mana cost of 9 makes it hard to play in a lot of cases. This time, however, we can splurge on Monsters as much mana as we want. Jokes aside, putting pressure on the enemy back line with Sneak in conjunction with Explosive Weaponry could expose weakness in the arrangement of the enemy's backline.
The forth spot in the line-up is for the Djinn Inferni who has the Giant Killer ability. It is pretty self-explanatory. The Monster does double damage against Monsters who cost 10 or more mana. I expect such Monsters in a battle with a mana restriction of 99. It is also fairly swift with 4 speed, and its Magic attack is more than welcome paired with Explosive Weaponry.

The fifth position goes to our protagonist this week. I won't lie, I can play 10 different Monsters instead of it in this battle in particular but since I need to show that the little fella can carry his own weight, let's see how this goes.

The last spot is for the Lava Launcher. With its 4 ranged attack, 6 health and 6 armor, it is a great Monster to guard the backline against enemy Sneak Monsters. It is also able to fire from the main tank spot unlike most of the other ranged Monsters in the game. With the Explosive Weaponry in play it will probably be dead from splash damage by the time it gets to the 1st spot but there is always hope.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • I have chosen to go with my favorite Fire Splinter Summoner, namely Tarsa which I recently levelled to 4, as for the enemy - they have chosen to go with a level 2 Thaddius, so right off the bat I have the advantage of having better Monsters on the field. That does not necessary mean I will win, of course. Sometimes upsets do happen. However, I was right in my hunch that the enemy will include a few Magic attackers in their line-up, and even though they are level 1, they are basically the best casters the Death Splinter has to offer.

  • After 1 round, the enemy has lost their Ancient Lich from Explosive Weaponry splash damage after a hit of my Sand Worm which landed onto their Cornealus. This is huge but also shows the bad placement of the lich in this case.

image.png

  • At the start of round 3 I have basically ravaged through the enemy's team and I have not yet lost a single Monster. Going Grum in the first spot was a key factor in this match-up. One hit from the Djinn Inferni as it is the fastest Monster on the board and both the enemy's Monsters will be sent on a boat ride down the river Styx.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE 2<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>

  • Let us begin with the line-up and the Ruleset:

image.png

So this time around the mana restriction is a bit tighter but still more than enough for me to pick a decent line-up. Reverse Speed combined with Super Sneak calls for two main plays. First off one needs to ensure they play as slow Monsters as they could and Grum is again the Monster for that with its 1 speed. Secondly one needs to fortify the back line as all enemy melee Monsters other than the tank will probably try their luck on the last Monster in the line-up.

The 2nd place goes to the Molten Ash Golem. It has a large body - 10 health, has 2 speed, and 2 ranged attack, and last but definitely not least, it can attack from the first position. This is why I sometimes opt to use it as an offtank. This is one such case.

The third spot out of the blue goes to the level 2 Spirit Hoarder. It seems unexpected but since we have the Super Sneak in play I have it in play for its Triage ability which will surely support the last Monster I place in the back line and, of course, any other following it should the last one fall. This could turn out to be pretty important. The Spirit Hoarder also has 1 speed so again it fits well in this battle.
The forth spot in the line-up is for the Scavo Firebolt. Its main objective is to look pretty and do some damange to the enemy tank. It has actually got me thinking... why is a fireball lobbing magician wannabe classified as a ranged attack Monster and not a magic attack one. It shall remain a mystery I guess..

The fifth position is for the Disintegrator. I have it in this spot to support the backline in case my last Monster falls and also to reduce the enemy's melee damage. Moreover since we have the Super Sneak in play, it will also be able to attack the enemy's last Monster from this spot so that's even better.

Last but not least - the Living Lava. Everyone who has played with or against it knows that it takes a lot of beating before it finally falls. Of course it is susceptible to magic damage but in the last spot no magic damage will find its way to it. It also has 1 speed, and will also be able to attack due to Super Sneak, so what more can one want - nothing - perfection in play.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • As we can see I have again opted for my level 4 Tarsa - I have no other level 4 summoner, so don't judge me 😁. On the other hand the enemy is rocking a level 2 Sloan. Again I have the edge due to the level difference between the two of us but that still does not mean the game is an auto win.

image.png

  • After 1 round, my opponent's Shielbearer is dead and buried. I guess they tried to counter Super Sneak with their taunt Monster but the damage was just too high for it to last more than 1 round, which sometimes is worth it but in this case, they have barely scratched my Grum and Living Lava.

image.png

  • At the start of Round 3 they have lost one more Monster while my line-up is still all accounted for.

image.png

  • Round 4 another of their Monsters down. It's no wonder they are dying from the back to the front as both Cornealus and the Venari Crystalsmith pump the healing numbers but that probably won't last for too long.

image.png

  • Round 5 and my Living Lava is still alive and well. The Spirit Hoarder did a fabulous job keeping it up as predicted. All of my Monsters are still accounted for so all that is left for me is to mop the floor wit the remaining two enemies. 😁

The Scavo Firebolt is a fairly priced (in terms of mana) ranged attacker from the Fire Splinter, which will definitely rarely be your MVP, but is a very nice Monster to support your offensive efforts for sure. I can imagine that at higher level of play and with the right setup, one can take full advantage of its attacking prowess with its Knock Out ability.
