This week in Splinterlands...

Even though it's only Tuesday we've had plenty of exciting stuff so far this week, starting with the Town Hall yesterday which touched upon a few interesting topics. But let's get straight to the elephant in the room - the most interesting part of the TH - the new promo card which is going on sale on the 2nd of May, namely Zyriel.

Zyriel is the first of her kind, not only because of the really cool artwork she has, but also because of the fact that she is the first dual-splinter card introduced to the game. She will share her time between the Life and Death Splinters, and that's actually very logical, given the fact that she is a fallen angel. Let's get to the more important stuff though - the price. Zyriel is priced at DEC 80,000 per BCX (even though she is a legendary card, she is not maxed out straight away), which is good for people, who play in the lower leagues. Her price, however, could be reduced to DEC 40,000 if you use 160 vouchers for each BCX you buy. This means that a max copy effective costs DEC 440,000 and 1760 vouchers. At current market prices (1 DEC = $0.00083 and vouchers at $0.1179), a max copy of Zyriel costs $572. That's definitely a hefty price, but I will share my personal thoughts on the card as a whole a bit later. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that there's a 4% chance for her to turn gold when bought, and also there's a guaranteed GF one for every 25 copies you buy. So, while we're on the topic of Zyriel, let's also have a look at her stats:

As I have already mentioned, Zyriel is a dual-splinter card, the first of its kind. At level 1 she starts off with Weapons Training (adjacent Monsters gain half this Monster's attack if they have no attack themselves) and Life Leech (monster's health increases each time it damages an enemy Monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt). She is the first tradable Monster with the Weapons Training ability, since it was introduced for the first time with the soulbound reward cards, which are still... soulbound. She also has 3 Ranged Attack, 2 Speed and 4 Health for a total of 7 mana. Frankly, at level 1 she is not impressive at all (even though her cool artwork makes her impressive at any level). At level two (Silver league level) she gains an addition point in the Ranged Attack section for a total of 4 and also her 3rd ability - Divine Shield (the first time the Monster takes damage it is ignored). Her power level for Silver is definitely better than what it is for Bronze. However, where she really starts shining a bit brighter is level 3 where she gains an extra health point for a total of 5 as well as her 4th and final ability - Rust (reduces the Armor of all enemy Monsters) which is really potent in the current meta of heavy armor use and repair extravaganza. Finally, at level 4 she gain an additional Ranged Attack for a total of 5. This is important since this means that at level 4 she can provide 3 attack to no-attack minions adjacent to her, thanks to the Weapon's Training ability, opposed to 2 attack for the previous levels.

Overall she is a card with top-notch art, even though I do wish they used the new Rebellion frame style on this one, and interesting uses for both the Life and Death splinters. Now for my very personal thoughts on the card. While I would really love to break the bank and jump all over her mostly cause of the art, I will have to pass this promo card. The first and main reason is that I do not really feel she's worth her hefty price tag. Just a quick comparison - currently I need about $740 to finish leveling my CL deck, this card alone costs 80% of what I need to put into the game to level 20 other cards. These 20 other cards I probably use in 9 out of 10 battles I do, and Zyriel, while cool and all, will be probably used twice in 15 battles on average due to her slow speed and high probability to miss. So the cost/benefit analysis for my case is not on her side. Secondly a level 4 Dr. Blight currently costs $490, that's a great price for a provenly overpowered card such as Dr. Blight, which can be played in almost any circumstances, given his low mana cost, neutral status and the insanely good kit. Thirdly, let's look at another promo card - because I know a lot of people will say - but she is a promo card, that's why her price is justified. Well the Runi during presale cost $250 in Eth and 100 vouchers. Are the utilities of the two cards even remotely comparable? I don't think so.

The second major occurrence after this week's maintenance is actually a long-awaited one, namely the ability for SPS stakers to stake SPS on other players/accounts. It is now live, and even though it still does not have its full functionality, this is a great leap forward for sure.

image.png

As you can see from the screenshot above you can delegate any amount of SPS you already have staked

image.png

And this menu above shows all accounts you have delegated SPS to as well as you available amount and unstaking amount (if any).

The third cool thing we got after this maintenance was also one I was waiting for some time, too. We are now able to contribute DEC-B to our guild builds. I had a total of 52,000 DEC-B from vouchers I converted and I contributed all of it to our Guild Hall. The Hall has already been leveled to level 7 actually thanks to our generous guild leader who contributed a large chunk of DEC-B to it as well.

Last but not least, another very welcome feature, which will improve the overall asset security of our accounts - we can now lock our land plots. It's the same process as with cards - you can pick a range from 1 to 30 days. I always go with 3 because I feel 3 days would be generally enough for me to recover my account should it get hacked (let's hope that never happens - knock on wood).

image.png

I am not sure about the way the locked plots are displayed though. I don't really like looking at a big lock in the middle of the nice environmental art, so I'm sure they could make that a lot more subtle. We are aware our lots are locked...
