CORAL WRAITH

Hello, everyone, I'm here to talk to you about a very recent strategy that I started using and have been having so much fun with it. At the center of this strategy is the Coral Wraith, an Epic Water monster from the Untamed set. However, it's only one of many monsters that make this battle possible.

Lore

Water.png

Also known as Warlocks of the Ocean, Coral Wraiths are the dark and frightening sorcerers of the deep. Stories say that they were once air breathers who grew tired of life on land. Through a magical alliance with the Mer Dark, they gave up their lives above the water forever.

Stats

Water.png

At level 1, it has 2 magic, 2 speed, and 2 health, while only costing 4 mana. This is a solid attack for a low mana card. However, what makes it stand out is its ability Sneak, targeting the last monster on the enemy team. This is a game-changer since Sneak is commonly a melee ability. That's why in the final position is common to have monsters with high speed or Flying to evade attacks. Being able to sneak with magic attacks guarantees that they'll hit.

Then, at max level, it also gains Rust, which reduces enemy armor by 2. While this doesn't affect it, since magic doesn't target armor, it can help melee and ranged allies. Overall it's a great card for its low mana cost.

Battle

Here I'll show you one of my battle using the Coral Wraith, and this strategy that I found. I'll describe it as best as I can, but nothing beats the feeling of actually watching the battle, so in this link you'll be able to watch the battle yourself.

Ruleset

Water.png

image.png

  • Silenced Summoners: Summoners don't give any stat buffs, debuffs, nor grant any ability.
  • Allowed Splinters: Fire, Water, and Dragon.

Team

I have to be honest, the ruleset didn't matter to me, since I just wanted to try the strategy, and only needed the mana cap to be enough, and have Water available.

CardDescription
VERA SALACIA

Because of the ruleset, the summoner is a non factor in this battle. I chose Vera since she's level 3, allowing me to use my leveled-up monsters.
WAVE BROOD

My main tank. It has Taunt, redirecting all attacks at him. And with his massive 13 health, it can take quite a lot of punches.
CRUEL SETHROPOD

In case Wave Brood was defeated, I put this monster to serve as an extra tank. For only 3 mana, it has a lot of health and armor.
MERDAALI GUARDIAN

A non attacking monster. With Tank Heal, she'll restore a third of the Wave Brood's health each turn. Thanks to the tank's massive health pool, she restores 4 health each turn!
URAEUS

This epic monster has sneak as well as the Wraith, and once level 2 it has 2 melee attack, being able to deal some serious damage for only 3 mana.
CORAL WRAITH

This post's featured monster. It, combined with the other sneak attackers, can get rid of the backline before they can deal some serious damage.
PELACOR BANDIT

My third and final sneak attacker. At level 4 it has 2 melee attack, just as Uraeus. However, it also has great speed and the ability Flying.

ROUND 1

Water.png

image.png

  • The Spark Pixies, and Fire Elemental attack the Wave Brood. And the Serpentine Spy targets it as well, thanks to Taunt.
  • My fast Pelacor Bandit lands an attack on the evasive Pixies. This allows the Coral Wraith and Uraeus to defeat the other 2 last monsters.
  • The two remaining opponents attack the Wave Brood, but Merdaali Guardian heals it back up to 6 health.

Thanks to the Sneak strategy, I defeated more than half of the enemy, while being protected thanks to Wave Brood's Taunt.

ROUND 2

Water.png

image.png

  • My 3 sneak monsters take turns attacking the Tenyii Striker, defeating him before being able to attack this round.
  • Merdaali heals Wave Brood up to 10 health.
  • Living Lava attacks my tank dealing 3 damage.

With a 6 vs 1 battle, it's over for the enemy. The living lava can only deal 3 damage each turn, while Merdaali heals 4 health. So it's impossible for the Wave Brood to die.

ROUND 3

Water.png

image.png

  • Pelacor Bandit and Ureaus take down the Lava's armor, while the Coral Wraith's attack leaves it with 4 health left.
  • Merdaali and Wave Brood continue to be an impenetrable wall.

Slowly but surely my team takes down the Living Lava. The following turn, my three sneak monsters attack the remaining enemy, and finish the battle.

Final Thoughts

Water.png

  • Wave Brood and Merdaali Guardian are a great combination. Thanks to the tank's massive health, the Merdaali can heal a lot of health.
  • Fosucing on the enemy backline first is a great strategy since, most of the time, the most vulnerable monsters are in that position.
  • The fact that most water and neutral Sneak attack monsters have a low mana cost means that they can be fit into virtually any battle. However, the Wave Brood does make up for that mana.
  • Finally, I'm really happy with this strategy and I really want to keep using it moving forward. I have to make sure to buy a Coral Wraith soon, since I don't own her yet.

Nice team! I do something similar but with a Demented Shark to buff all the sneak attackers! Not as defensive but they hit hard!
