Weekly Battle Challenge - WOOD NYMPH

WOOD NYMPH

Hello, everyone! Long time no see. I took a little break from the game, but decided it's time to come back and what better way to return than with a challenge of a really great Earth card. Yes, we're talking about the Wood Nymph, a common Earth card from the Reward set.

Now, this was my first time using the Wood Nymph since I don't tend to play with Earth. However, I'd seen her being used in a lot of teams, so I knew she was really powerful.

Lore

A peculiar new bud appeared at the tips of the highest branches of the Elder Tree. The animals living in the tree watched as the strange buds grew, and in a matter of days, burst open. From each bud zoomed forth a tiny sprite. These Wood Nymphs quickly scattered around Anumün in a frenzy of mischief.

Stats

At level 1, this card already has the tank heal ability and, prior to the Chaos Legion release, she was the only Earth monster with this ability at level 1. However, now that the Goblin Psychic was introduced, he also has Tank Heal at level 1, with more magic damage, but at the expense of a higher mana cost.

As for the other stats of the Wood Nymph, she has 1 magic damage, 1 speed and 2 health at level 1, meaning that she's mostly a support monster, not dealing that much damage.

Once maxed out, she also has the Strengthen ability, giving +1 Health to every monster on her team.

The Battle

The Ruleset

image.png

  • Equal Opportunity: All Monsters have the Opportunity ability, meaning that all monsters may attack from any position and will target the enemy with the lowest health.
  • Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
  • Allowed Splitners: Fire, Earth and Dragon.

The Team

For this battle, since it had the Equal Opportunity rule, I instantly knew that I wanted to use a monster with Taunt, so I decided to go with Earth, since the starting deck has a monster with this ability.

CardDescription
OBSIDIAN

This new summoner gives +1 Magic to all of her allied monsters. If you played before Chaos Legion, you know how powerful Alric was with a full magic team.
MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN

As I said before, I wanted a tank with Taunt and that's where the Mycelic Slipspawn comes in. Taunt redirects the enemy attacks towards this monster, protecting the rest of the team.

This was a must because even thought the enemy has Opportunity, they won't target my low health monsters.
REGAL PERYTON

A secondary tank in case the Slipspawn dies. Thanks to its incredible 5 speed and Flying, it can dodge a lot of attacks. It also benefits from the +1 of Obsidian.
ELVEN MYSTIC

Another magic monster. Are you seeing the pattern here?
WOOD NYMPH

This week's protagonist, the Wood Nymph will heal the tank every turn, meaning that the Mycelic Slipspawn will Taunt even more attacks, protecting the rest of the team.
GOBLIN PSYCHIC

Now, I already mentioned this card, and he has a great combo with the Wood Nymph. These 2 cards give +6 health to the Slipspawn each turn.
KHMER PRINCESS

Finally, this princess deals more magic damage, and since she only costs 2 mana, it doesn't hurt to use her.

ROUND 1

Right away, Peryton defeats the enemy Serpentine Spy, which is great, since he's a fast monster with a lot of attack. I then defeat the Fire Pixie as well. Meanwhile, the enemy attacks the Mycelic Slipspawn, however, thanks to its high health and the double heal, it doesn't die.

Finally, my monsters defeat the Living Lava easily, since they deal magic damage. With this, I defeated half of the enemy, while all of my monsters were still standing.

ROUND 2

My opponent keeps attacking the Slipspawn and leaves it with one health, however the double heal takes it to 7 health at the end of the round.

Also, all of my monsters manage to defeat all but one enemy monster, making this a 6 vs 1 battle against the Tenyii Striker. I guess, I don't need to tell you who won the battle.

Other Recommended Cards

CardDescription
LYANNA NATURA

Even though Obsidian would be better, Lyanna gives +1 health to every allied monster, allowing the tank, and also the Wood Nymph, to survive longer.
PELACOR MERCENARY

At gold level, this card has Heal, meaning that on top of the Nymph's healing, he also heals himself.
QUEEN MYCELIA

This legendary monster has the Protect ability, which gives +2 armor to every ally. This protects the Nymph of melee or ranged attacks.

Final Thoughts

The Wood Nymph is a great card. She allowed my tank to survive a lot longer than it would had she not been used. If you're planning to compete in the Wild Format in the future, she makes a great combo with the Goblin Psychic, and I think every player in that format should own her. However, since I'd like to play in modern league, I don't think I'll use her again.

It was great posting here in peakd and playing Splinterlands. I took a break for the last month, but I'm glad to be back playing and being part of this community.

Finally, I hope you enjoyed my review of Wood Nymph, and see you next week (hopefully) on the next Challenge!
