Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Hidden Gems / Moxian Rebel (ENG/ITA)

Hello to all Splinterlands friends !!!

Unfortunately, we cannot ignore reality, the crypto market still seems trapped in a marked bearish phase. Bitcoin has dramatically lost the psychological threshold of 100 k $, dropping to about 94 k $, then recovering slightly to around 95, 96 k $. The general feeling is that of a full bear market, with a rather gloomy sentiment weighing on many blockchains.

That said, a note of hope comes from Hive, the network on which Splinterlands is built, compared to other cryptos, it has shown decent resilience. Hive has not fallen below the infamous 0.10 $, instead settling around 0.113 $, a value that may seem modest, but in this context carries strategic importance. Considering the recent decline, with Hive dropping from 0.3 $ to 0.2 $, maintaining even this level represents a small but crucial sign of stability.

The performance of internal tokens is also disappointing. DEC loses about 7,5 percent on a weekly basis, while SPS records a drop of about 4,5 percent. It is evident that bearish pressure is hitting the game economy as well, which is not good news for our collector and player portfolios.

Despite everything, something seems to be holding, the internal card market has not lost too much ground. For example, the new CA card Dar ‘Gottem’ Gearnut is currently worth about 16,5 $ per BCX. This is encouraging, because if cards retain value, the Splinterlands economy stays alive even in times of crisis.

Anyway, in this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge we are asked to talk about a hidden gem, so let's dive into the topic....

Moxian Rebel is a card that generated some interest when it first came out in the Rebellion edition, because it has the Weapons Training ability starting from level one, which at the time was something new, but now it has perhaps fallen a bit into oblivion.

With Weapons Training, Moxian gives its own attack to the two adjacent cards if they are monsters without an attack, so in this case, it grants a magic attack of 1.

Clearly, being a neutral card costing only 4 Mana, we are talking about a monster that cannot compete with the heavyweights of Splinterlands, but in some battles it can offer winning combos when placed between the right cards.

In this battle, with a Mana Cap of only 15, and the Even Stevens ruleset limiting us to using only even Mana cost cards, I chose the super cheap archon Dolfar Darflak, then placed the trio Grimbardun Smith, Moxian Rebel, Nimbledook Scout followed by Elanor Bravefoot.

My opponent, instead, focused on quality, choosing Underboss Fabino as archon and deploying only one heavy monster, Endless Ape.

My opponent’s strategy was clear, take advantage of the strong stats of Endless Ape, but especially its Scavenger ability, which would grant it +1 Health and Max Health whenever one of my cards died.

But that did not happen....

Grimbardun Smith does not have an attack on its own, but for the cost of only 6 mana it has 8 Health and 1 Armor, so it resisted very well the melee hits of 2 from Endless Ape, and thanks to Moxian Rebel, both Grimbardun in Tank position and Nimbeldook Scout in third position gained a magic attack of 1.

This trio is a combo that, in low Mana Cap battles or in rulesets like Rise of The Commons, can really make a difference, giving an attack to cards that normally have none, but that may have high defensive stats for their cost category.

Purtroppo, non possiamo ignorare la realtà: il mercato crypto sembra ancora intrappolato in una fase ribassista piuttosto marcata. Bitcoin ha perso in modo plateale la soglia psicologica dei 100 k $, scendendo fino a circa 94 k $, per poi riprendersi lievemente tra i 95–96 k $. La sensazione generale è quella di un bear market a tutti gli effetti, con un sentiment piuttosto cupo che grava su molte blockchain.

Detto questo, una nota di speranza arriva da Hive, la rete su cui si poggia Splinterlands: rispetto ad altre crypto, ha mostrato una discreta tenuta. Hive non è scesa sotto i famigerati 0,10 $, attestandosi invece intorno a 0,113 $, un dato che può sembrare modesto, ma che in questo contesto assume un valore strategico. Considerando il recente declino — con Hive che era sprofondata da 0,3 $ a 0,2 $ — mantenere anche soltanto questo livello rappresenta un piccolo ma fondamentale segnale di stabilità.

Deludenti anche le performance dei token interni. I DEC perdono circa 7,5% su base settimanale, mentre gli SPS registrano un calo di circa 4,5%. È evidente che la pressione ribassista sta mordendo anche l’economia di gioco, il che non è una buona notizia per i nostri portafogli da collezionisti e giocatori.

Nonostante tutto, qualcosa sembra reggere: il mercato delle carte interne non ha perso troppo terreno. Prendiamo ad esempio la nuova carta CA Dar ‘Gottem’ Gearnut, che al momento vale circa 16,5 $ per BCX. È un elemento incoraggiante, perché se le carte mantengono valore, resta viva l’economia di Splinterlands anche in tempo di crisi.

Comunque, nello Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge di questa settimana ci viene chiesto di parlare di una hidden gem, quindi addentriamoci nell'argomento....

Moxian Rebel, è una carta che aveva suscitato un po' di interesse appena uscì, nell'edizione Rebellion, perchè possiede, fin dal primo livello, l'abilità Weapons Training, che a quell'epoca era una novità, ma adesso, forse, è caduta un po' nel dimenticatoio.

Con Weapons Training, Moxian dona il proprio attacco anche alle due carte adiacenti se sono mostri senza attacco, quindi, nel suo caso, regala un attacco magico da 1.

Chiaramente, essendo una carta neutrale dal costo di solo 4 Mana, stiamo parlando di un mostro che non può competere contro gli Heaviweights di Splinterlands, però in alcune sfide può offrire delle combo vincenti se schierata in mezzo alle giuste carte.

In questa sfida, con un Mana Cap di solo 15, e il ruleset Even Stevens che ci limita a scegliere solamente carte con costo in Mana di numero pari, ho deciso di scegliere l'archon super-economico di nome Dolfar Darflak, e poi ho posizionato un trio composto da Grimbardun Smith, Moxian Rebel, Nimbledook Scout seguiti da Elanor Bravefoot.

Il mio avversario, invece, ha puntato tutto sulla qualità, prendendo Underboss Fabino come archon, e schierando un solo mostro di peso , ovvero Endless Ape.

La strategia del mio avversario era chiara: sfruttare gli stats corposi di Endless Ape, ma soprattutto la sua abilità Scavenger, che gli avrebbe donato +1 di Health e Max Health alla morte di ogni mia carta.

Ma questo non è successo....

Grimbardun Smith, ok, è una carta che di suo non ha un attacco, ma per il costo di solo 6 mana ha 8 di Health e 1 di Armor, e quindi ha retto benissimo i colpi da 2 di melee sferrati da Endless Ape, mentre , grazie a Moxian Rebel, sia Grimbardun in posizione Tank che Nimbeldook Scout in terza posizione, hanno ottenuto un attacco magico di 1.

Questo trio è una combo che nelle battaglia a basso Mana Cap o con rulesets come Rise of The Commons, può veramente fare la differenza, dando un attacco a carte che ne sono sprovviste, ma che, magari, hanno stats difensive alte per quella categoria di costo.
