When a Child Is Born From Two Journeys

When I look around my surroundings, I have discovered that one of the things that most people talk about in a very low tone when it comes to the issue of surrogacy.This is what everyone knows, but we all tend to look away when discussions like this come up. Yet, those who move towards it are humans too full of hope and pain.

Personally, I have not come in contact with people who have been involved, but I can remember watching a Nollywood movie a few months ago where a Christian couple who had been married for some years found it difficult to give birth, but surrogacy was the next option left because they were tired of all the procedures they had been going through. For those couples, the surrogacy was a survival they had to embrace because it was no longer science.

Amidst all the surrogacy ups and downs, here is the part that most of us seem to ignore, and maybe it's because I am thinking out loud. The surrogate mother is also a human being. In my country, where all eyes are on you, especially when you are pregnant, people around you will be greeting you left and right and asking that you should not walk under the sun because of the pregnancy and even for the safety of the pregnant woman. Now, the whole situation gets switched on when the woman goes through all those months of vigorous body changes and then disappears after she might have given birth like a smoke in the air.

But we should not forget that surrogacy is attached to a lot of things, like it must be legally done, which means it will involve documents being signed as a contract, a registered hospital agreement, and lawyers involved to safeguard those who are involved.

But let's be honest, all these still have a human feeling involved because it is very hard for a mother to just erase the memory and connections she shared with a baby she carried for nine months. Even if her eggs were not involved, it was definitely her body that did the majority of all the work, the sleepless nights, all those body changes and stress coupled with weakness and sickness, and all those contact thoughts of if everything will go well when she's about to give birth.

And about the parental decision, I do not think she should be involved in that, and that should be left to the couples. And about her asking for the well-being of the child, I guess she should be updated and not shut out completely because this shows dignity and not authority.

I have heard people say that giving the surrogate mother a little chance like the one I mentioned above might create problems, though people talk from experience, but think of it: let's say you lend your house out to someone as a landlord. Does it mean you cannot walk past the house and smile? That is just it; surrogate mothers should not be shut out completely because it might create a type of wound in their mind. But all these still books come down to the type of contract that was signed.

The new child involved might have come from two couples genetics, but it involves three people because just a baby might be born, but the mind and heart of those involved will be forever changed and thus is why I conclude by saying that surrogacy goes beyond science just as I have said before because it involves a little of sacrifices and all those who are involved deserves recognition.
