When the Battle Is Inside the Mind

A lot of people usually enjoy judging a lot of things without having an in-depth understanding of them, and one of those things is addiction. In my country, there is this popular thing that we usually say, "That is what he decided to do," or something like, "If he knows what is best for him, he will stop" but in the real sense of it, over time I have gotten to realize that addiction goes beyond what people imagine it to be. It makes people not have shame. And it is a continuous act of bad decision.

I am a person that has a strong belief that everything we do in this life starts from something very small, then it grows into something big that begins to control us, whether it is womanizing, going to clubs, taking weed, or drinking hard substances. As simple as staying glued to our phone is, it is an addiction that if we do not press our phone for some time, it will be like they have taken something away from us. I might not be speaking for everyone, but just for a few. At first it looks so harmless, then it begins to increase gradually that we think we might control it, but it becomes who we are and follows us anywhere we go.

Last year, I came across a man of about 35 years old; he has become addicted to all these Colorado drugs. When I got to meet him, he seemed normal, but over time I got to know that he is into drugs and that he cannot do without them. It got to a point that instead of using his last card to buy food, he preferred to spend it on drugs, then he would go from door to door asking for food. At some point I had to ask him if he couldn't do without the drug. He was like he cannot be himself if he does not smoke in a day, and it will be as if something is missing in his life. It has become an addiction for him at that stage, and I am sure it started small, which he's now struggling with.

The funny thing is that he does not do this in public; he hides to smoke whatever he is smoking because he knows that it is a bad habit. We do not talk about how far people have become addicted to something, and that is why they suffer more in darkness.

It is very hard for people to run away from it because they believe that they cannot, but once they have that mindset that they can do without it and that it is not bigger than them, that is already the first step. And another thing is that you must give yourself up and give yourself in to help from those who are willing to help. Like I said, addiction starts very small until it grows bigger, but to do without it finally, it requires a lot of discipline, dedication, and assistance. And what I know is that if we can address addiction as what it is maybe a lot of things will change and people will get less addicted to drugs.

My dear the hidding part only makes it obvious that what they are doing is wrong.

Having mindset that you can overcome is the first step in any kind of addiction.

I love this...
You really captured the real side of addiction, it does starts small, and if left unchecked, it becomes an addiction. And as you rightly said, a lot of people judge from afar without knowing how deep it runs.

Thanks for sharing such recovery tips.
