Splinterlands versus Gods unchained (comparing apples and oranges.)

Introduction:
For almost a year I’m trying out different NFT games. There are a lot of money grabbing, soul sucking and mindless games out there, but within the pile of garbage and shit there are gems waiting to be discovered!
The two games that kept my interest and I still play after months of trying are Splinterlands and Gods Unchained. I love both games and communities for different reasons and I have no intention of stopping playing those games.

Brief describtion of the games:
Splinterlands: This is the NFT game with biggest player base!
If you never played a video game; this is a close to a rock paper scissor game. Were you can have a collection of very nice rocks with different attributes. If you collect a lot of one rock you can fuse it together into a stronger rock. But instead of rocks paper of scissors you have melee, ranged or magic monsters.
At the start of a fight you select the monsters that will fight. The monsters automatically fight.

Gods Unchained: A trading card game.
First you need to build a deck or select a free starter deck. Then you fight the other player in turns with the spells or monsters you draw from the deck. You win by dealing damage to the opponent and his life hits zero.

Differences
Both games have monsters and are called “card-games” but that’s almost everything they have in common. O, and both have NFT’s!

Game experience:
Splinterlands battles are quick and doesn’t require full attention. You pick your line-up of monsters and watch them fight. I play it mostly on mobile, sitting on the couch (or toilet to be honest) when I have a few minutes to relax.

Gods unchained battles can take up a quarter of an hour for each battle. It’s turn based, pretty intensive on your own turn, even during the enemy turn you have to think ahead and try to figure out what your opponent gameplan is. This is not released on mobile, so I really sitdown behind my PC and play and focus on gods unchained.

Depending on what type of experience I want at that moment I pick the game I will play.

Dynamic battles
Splinterlands has a dynamic ruleset (if you get out of the bronse league). Which means you have to chance you line-up to take full advantage of the ruleset. You also see your opponent last 5 played line-up before you pick your monsters. So you can anticipate on the monsters your opponent uses. This makes every battle different and having a variety of monsters a great tool to win!

Gods unchained has no dynamic ruleset, you pick a deck and you can fully master this deck. You will have to anticipate on what your opponent will be doing, and there is a very interesting gods favor mechanic which makes every battle a little bit different. Don’t get me wrong, almost every battle is different and you can learn sooooo much. Just like the chess rules are simple, yet the variety of games and the ways to win is enormous.

Eco system
Splinterlands is all about getting the strongest monsters and leveling them up. You cannot progress in the leagues unless you own a certain about of monster power. The progress your account can make is enormous, but it also takes a lot of time or money to improve a little. If you are free to play your progress is so slow it’s frustrating, so I put some money into this game to speed things up a little and keep it interesting. There are incentives to stake the SPT (splinterlands tokens) as well as other assest to earn more SPT . The renting system is a players best friend to play with strong monsters on a budget, and earning passive income for players with a lot of monsters. You can improve by playing the market contributing to the community or events, without playing a battle.

Gods unchained is about collection your ultimate deck and then improving your gaming skill. There is a market for buying / selling card which I use to buy that one card my deck need and sell some card I own multiple of for GODS tokens, but that’s about it. The community seems more about building better or weirder decks. You can earn quite a lot cards by simply playing, I’m free to play and were in the highest rank. I was the lowest of the highest rank, because I suck, but nothing limits me for improving. Some expensive legendary cards are more powerful then normal card and will increase your chances of winning a little bit, when you finally earned enough GODS to purchase that one card you really like, it feels good, winning because of that card feels even more amazing. There is a card leveling / rarity system but it has no influence on the game yet.

Both games are very different with great communities. The Splinterlands eco system is very evolved compaired to Gods Unchained, where Gods unchained is more about the game. Splinterlands is introducing more and more incentives to spend or invest money (At this moment you need around thousands of dollars in card power to get into the gold league, which is not the highest league!). It is not free-to-play friendly but if you want to make money with your investments or with trading this might be a great opportunity.

Conclusion
Splinterlands and Gods unchained are very different games, you should try them both!!

There is way more to say about the differences about Splinterlands and Gods unchained but this is already too long, let me know if you want to know anything.

Feel free to ask any questions. For splinterlands or GU as I play both games. Or even if it comes to writing as well. Keep putting effort into your writing and you will soon be on your way to great earnings on Hive!!

How do you get so many people to vote for your post? Is it about building connections or is there another trick i'm missing?

I never played splinterlands. In fact gods unchained was my first RNG ever even though I always loved card games. I also loved it because it was somewhat well built and not so complicated I guess

It is really well build! most NFT games out there are a bit more focussed on the crypto, rather than making a good game. I could not recommend a better game than Gods unchained. But if you are looking for something lighter, Splinterlands can be fun.
