Celestial Force | Splinterlands Fan art

Celestial Harpy+Pelacor Arbalest

I don't think I will make it in time

It's already Saturday and that means final line day for the Splinterlands Weekly contest, and I've just finished my participation, right now I'm writing this as fast as possible to try to enter the contest time limit, but I doubt I'll make it.

And why am I doing this at the last minute? because as you can see this week I got a little ambitious and I wanted to make a fan art not only of a character, but of two of them, with wings and many feathers to paint, and I knew how difficult it is to make wings to a character that is on his back but you still want to see his face 😖.

Despite all this I hope you enjoy the majesty of two winged creatures from the world of Splinterlands, the beautiful Celestial Harpy and the crossbow sniper, Pelacor Arbalest.

Tools:

  • Gaomon S620
  • Photoshop
  • Brushes courtesy of Imad Awan: Download here

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

I wanted to make the characters as dynamic as possible since they are flying beings and in the sky they can move as they please. That's why I had to make different sketches and improve them more and more because really making the crossbowman was a headache due to the pose I gave him, but as I'm stubborn instead of changing it, I tried to achieve my goal.

-Step 2:

With the pen tool, I selected the silhouettes of the characters, leaving their wings separate and going straight to painting them since their base colors were very clear to me.

-Step 3:

Now in some new layers I proceeded to go into the details of the characters, for the feathers of the harpy's head I used the symmetry tool, as well as for the crossbow, which I improved and maintained its precision with a horizontal and a vertical guide line. I also made the crossbowman's hair short, as his long hair didn't let me fit his head properly.

-Step 4:

Using overlay layers, soft light and the curves tool, I was giving more saturation to the piece, making the characters contrast with the light background, and so the crossbowman's shot was more special, because there is a mistake I recognize in the composition, and is that the lower right corner is completely empty except for my signature, and this is something that I dislike because it did not give me a chance to do something there to cover that space, a bird or at least a cloud would have been nice.

I will leave you a GIF with the whole process on it, so you can better appreciate the illustration process.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

See you in a future post!
