Betrayal

My name is Blessing. There was this great mistake I made in ninth grade, and I promised myself never to make such mistakes again. I had always dreamed of attending a prom night and being the star of the party. I finally had the opportunity to attend one when I got to grade 8. Likewise, I had a great plan for how I was going to steal the limelight. But the mistake I made was trusting the wrong person with my plans and my secrets. I never knew my best friend could do this to me. This was how it all started.

I had a great plan, or, should I say, a perfect plan, which, I believed, had no faults. Little did I know that a little mistake is all it takes for a perfect plan to crumble.

You might be thinking, What am I making a huge, perfect plan for? Well, I was preparing myself to be the prom queen of my school on our prom night, which was supposed to take place two weeks from that day. I had the perfect plan that would make me the star of the night and allow me to be voted as the best candidate for the prom queen position.

Well, I was aiming for the position because I had a gigantic crush on the present prom king. He was everybody's dream guy, but I wish to be the one he chose.

I felt I had to boast to someone about my perfect plan. So I told my best friend about my perfect plan. Unknown to me, my best friend was also in love with the gentleman, but she had never talked about it before. She even encouraged me to go after what I wanted.

I told her about all my plans and how I was going to execute them and become the star of the night. I went on and on about how happy I was and how I wished I would end up stealing the heart of the great prom king. Not only that, but I was so happy. Furthermore, I felt lucky to be able to attend the prom night, but unknown to me, the more I talked about being with him, the more furious and jealous was my friend.

My best friend and I prepared to go shopping for clothes, shoes, earrings, bags, and other needed stuff together. We bought two pairs each.

Later that evening, we went to the stylist to get our hair styled together. We left there, and we went to our separate homes to dress up, promising each other that whoever got there first would call the other. Unknown to me, my best friend went ahead to get the same clothes as me and restyled her hair to the same one I did. She made sure she got there first and called me, telling me the party wouldn't start early and would start two hours later.

I got back to some housework, thinking I had more time. My friend was at the party and was getting all the attention meant for me. The first dance started, and as the most glamorous girl there, she got the first dance with my crush. Unknown to me, she had spread different bad rumors about me to everyone at the party, and now everyone saw me as the villain.

When I was finally done with the house chores, I dressed up and went to the party, telling myself I would be the star of the night. On getting to the party, I was looked at with fierce gazes by my classmates. Then and there, I saw my best friend hugging my crush and being announced as the prom queen. Right there, my wall of joy crumbled, but I still wanted at least an explanation. So I walked up to my best friend and asked her what was going on.

She acted like an entirely different person. She went on and on about saying I dressed just like her to steal her limelight. Likewise, she said I betrayed her trust right in front of everyone. Not only that, but she betrayed me and slandered me. I just couldn't believe my perfect plan was shattered because of a mistake I made, which was trusting my best friend. From then on, I learned never to trust someone, regardless of who they might be, how close they might be to me, or how trustworthy they may seem.
