Hello Splinterlands Community, for this week I will share my thoughts and opinions about Riverboat Captain which is a good magic damage monster in the water element that can bring destruction to the enemy team.

About Riverboat Captain

Riverboat Captain is a rare water unit that deals magic damage to opponents that belongs to the Rewards Set. This card is part of the new reward editions which are soulbound. This means that the new reward cards coming from the focus and season chests are tied to the account of the player in which they are received and these cards cannot be transferred, rented or delegated, burned, or sold in the marketplace. The only way to leveled up this card is by getting it through season and focus chest which are achievable by playing ranked battles.

The figure above shows the complete statistics of Riverboat Captain from Level 1 up to Level 8. Since this card is a rare unit, it would require 115 cards to upgrade this card to its maximum level which can be achieved by collecting this card from focus and season chests. It already has the Blast ability at Level 1 which deals extra damage to the monster that is adjacent to the target unit that Based on the figure above, I can say that upgrading this card to Level 4 would be good to increase its health as well as its speed. It also unlocks the second ability of this card which is Affliction. The Affliction ability causes the monster to be unable to be healed throughout the match. It is very effective against monsters in the first position that has a monster or summoner which supports that unit with healing abilities.

Rulesets

Riverboat Captain is a great magic damage card that can be deploy in battlefield however that unit also needs to be supported as well by the appropriate rulesets in the game in order to utilize its magic damage as well as its Blast ability which is very powerful in the battle. That is the reason why I will share some current rulesets in the game which I believe is suitable for Riverboat Captain and for the rest of team as well.

Equaliser

This ruleset fits very well with Riverboat Captain, it makes the initial health of all monsters in the battlefield equivalent to the health of the monster with the highest amount of health on either teams at the start of the match. Riverboat Captain benefits a lot with this ruleset since this unit has a low amount of health and this ruleset would make this unit more durable which would depend on the the monster with the highest amount of health on both teams.

Armored Up

image.png

This ruleset also fits very well with Riverboat Captain, it gives +2 Armor to all the monsters in the battlefield at the start of the match. This gives Riverboat Captain more durability in the match especially against melee and ranged opponents. The armor buff from this ruleset does not affect the damage that Riverboat Captain can deal to enemy units as this monster deals magic damage to the enemy team.

Fog of War

This ruleset also works very well with Riverboat Captain, this ruleset removes Snipe,Sneak and Opportunity ability from every monsters in the battlefield at the start of the match. This makes Riverboat Captain more safe to use in the battle because the enemy monsters would now prioritize the monster that is currently in the first position of the team and it would not also cause any worry if the Riverboat Captain is placed in the last position unless the enemy monster with a Scattershot ability strikes this unit.

Keep your Distance

This ruleset also fits well with Riverboat Captain, this ruleset does not allow melee monsters to be able to used in battles. This makes only ranged monster and magic damage monster as well as monsters that does not deal any damage usable for the battle. This is where magic damage team composition are great to play with where Riverboat Captain can utilize its blast ability to the enemy team since most ranged and magic monsters do not have a good amount of health and even the effects of the blast ability can take down those enemy monsters.

Reverse Speed

This ruleset also works well with Riverboat Captain, this ruleset causes monsters with the lowest speed to strike first each round and also they have the highest chance of evading attacks. the ruleset is favorable for Riverboat Captain as this unit has 1 speed and it would most likely attack first each round compared to other units in the battlefield with higher amount of speed.

Summoners

Choosing the summoner to used for Riverboat Captain is very important as this unit is not that durable and it can deal a good amount magic damage that complements very will its blast ability . Since Riverboat Captain is a water element unit it can only be deploy in the battle by using a water element summoner or a dragon element summoner if ever the water element is availabble in the match. Because I mostly use Chaos Legion Cards, Gladius Cards, Reward Cards and other starter cards that are playable on my battles now and before, I am going to share my personal selection on the summoners that belongs on those sets which I am familiar with and I have already experienced playing it on ranked battles multiple times that I think should be a great choice if ever you want to use Riverboat Captain in battles.

Kelya Frendul

This water summoner is the best summoner to choose if ever you will use Riverboat Captain in the battle. It gives +1 armor and +1 speed to all your units at the start of the match which benefits Riverboat Captain a lot considering that this unit does not have a good amount of health where the armor buff would increase the durability of that unit while the speed buff helps Riverboat Captain to strike earlier each round.

Pembrook Nymph

This water summoner also works very well with Riverboat Captain. It gives +1 health to all your units at the start of the match. The health buff from this summoner increases the durability of Riverboat Captain as well as the other units in the team. This summoner also allows a Gladius card to be used in the ranked battle which would be beneficial for the team. The blast ability from Riverboat Captain can help the Gladius monster in the team to take down the opponents easily and triggers the Bloodlust ability.

Delwyn Dragonscale

This dragon element summoner is also good when playing Riverboat Captain. It gives +1 magic damage to all your units at the start of the match and since this is a dragon summoner, it allows you to use dragon element monsters in the battle. The magic damage buff from this summoner works well Riverboat Captain as it increases the magic damage it can deal to the enemy team which also complements the blast ability of this unit to deal more additional damage to the enemy units.

My Battle

This is the ranked battle that I want to share where I used my Riverboat Captain alongside with other magic damage monsters in the water element to take down the enemy team. I used Delwyn Dragonscale as my summoner in this battle to increase the magic damage of all my units including Riverboat Captain. The magic damage buff from my summoner was a big help as my team was able to take down the enemy monsters more faster and increases my chances to secure the victory.
