How to Make Money Playing Games-Article Analysis

avatar

Articles on "Play to Earn" typically focus in one area...$USD. They seem to forget about crypto, or perhaps they haven't learned the realm. I had never been in the "Play to Earn" scene, but I was very interested in learning about it, so I turned to who else? Uncle Google (though I think there are some here that would tell me to go to presearch...I get it, I just forgot this time...)...

I found this article: How to Make Money Playing Games
https://smallbiztrends.com/2021/12/make-money-playing-games.html

What I learned:

They list 4 ways to earn money:

  1. Play the games (duh)
  2. Make video game content/be a video game journalist,
  3. Participate in live professional gaming events
  4. Live stream game play.

To me, it seemed like 1, 3, and 4 are all the same and step 2 is an extension to #1, 2, and 3. lol...basically, if you want to get paid playing games, you gotta play 🤣 no surprise there, I suppose.

What shocked me was this:

Reports indicate that gamers can earn anywhere between $20 an hour to $200 an hour for game playing, but there is no way to establish an average.

That's actually a really good wage if you can consistently make $20/hour on the low end. That brings me to my first question to you, the reader... Have you tracked how much you earn per hour playing games, and if so, what is your average? (You can give a range, I don't mean to pry too much, though we can all see your wallets here on Hive 😋)

They also mention a game coach...whuh! People pay to be coached how to play?! wow...that's some serious business. When it all comes down to it, the article essentially said the money is in showing other people videos of you playing the game, via Twitch or YouTube, creating tutorials or coaching.

It followed up with games you can play to earn, listing Mistplay (never heard of it), Blitz (also never heard of it), Skillz Gaming (huh?), VeryDice, Brain Battle, and GameHag. Nope, never heard of any of these, and none of the games listed are on the Hive chain...this is where I think the article fell short.

Here on Hive, in the limited time I've been here, I've learned of Splinterlands, dCity, Ape Mining Club, Psyber-X, Dcrops, Rising Star and a few others I can't remember the name of right now...one about brewing your own beer? All of these pay you to play. How cool is that!?!

I know I won't be playing these games...because I'm addict. If I get started, I will have major repercussions with my family. I've already been through that and don't want to do it again, but I definitely cheer on those who do play them, especially if they're earning to do it! I say, "Game on, Gamer!" I want to live vicariously through your game play. Please tell me in the comments below what game you play, how often you play, and what kinds of earnings you get (it doesn't have to be exact. Let's keep this fun).

I'm new to this community, but I hope to write more financial posts. I hope you'll accept me in your community with open arms. I look forward to reading your comments and I want to thank you in advance for any upvotes you give, no matter how big or small. If I've missed a game on Hive, please mention it here, too so I can learn about it!

Thank you so much! I've only been around 1 week, but I have a coach who told me to learn all I could in one week before posting anything. I took it to heart and hope to be posting much more moving forward! Thanks for the tip!!!

Welcome to Hive and Leofinance!

Hi @haveyaheard
I like Splinterlands!
But I must admit I enjoy renting my cards out as much if not more and counting up my daily earnings then playing.
Its relatively common to earn a couple hundred Dec a day renting and a couple hundred a day playing, plus I stake SPS for another 15-20 SPS a day.
I definitely won't quit my day job anytime soon, but I can see how three years from now I might be able to cut back my regular job to part time with benefits.
Who knows maybe sooner if the altcoin market has a bull run!
Cheers

Yeah, quitting the day job would definitely require a huge amount of consistency. I need to grab up more coins before the bull run :)
