The Crowdin Catastrophe: A Confession of Missed Connections

avatar

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when we unearth a long-forgotten message. Imagine the horror when that message is a glowing acknowledgement of your hard work! This is exactly what transpired with me on the wonderful localization platform, Crowdin.

Back in August 2022, Xurshida from the Ecency mobile app team sent a message expressing their appreciation for my contributions on Crowdin. They even wanted to feature me on their contributor list – a tremendous honor for any freelancer. Unfortunately, amidst the whirlwind of projects and deadlines, this kind message got buried in the notification avalanche. Fast forward to January 2023, and a wave of guilt washed over me as I stumbled upon the long-lost message.

This incident served as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining communication, especially on platforms like Crowdin where collaboration thrives. Here's what I learned from this Crowdin catastrophe:

  • The Taming of Notifications: Let's face it, notifications can easily become white noise. Consider setting up periodic reminders to check your Crowdin messages. This ensures you stay on top of any project updates, questions, or, in my case, heart-warming acknowledgements.
  • Communication is King (or Queen): Crowdin messages deserve the same level of attention as emails or other communication channels. Treat them with respect, and prioritize responding in a timely manner.
  • Honesty is the Best Policy: We're all human, and sometimes things slip through the cracks. If you do miss a message, don't shy away. Own up to it with a brief explanation (without dwelling on the details) and a sincere apology.
  • Gratitude is a Gift: Always express your appreciation for any recognition or opportunity you receive. A simple "thank you" goes a long way in building positive relationships.

Crowdin offers a fantastic platform for connecting with projects you're passionate about. By staying engaged and fostering clear communication, you can forge lasting connections with project managers and fellow contributors, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and productive Crowdin experience.

P.P.S. A massive thank you once again to Xurshida and the Ecency team for their recognition! My Hive/Ecency username is hdmed. I'm incredibly excited to keep contributing to the platform and the wider blockchain community.
