Splinterlands free to play : Day 5 -- in defense of buying a Spellbook

As a free to play player I'm loathe to put out the $10 for a spellbook because many of its promises have been watered down or made useless. DEC with every battle? Nope. Access to tournaments? Sure. But good luck without a heap of cards. Access to the store? Packs can be bought on the secondary market and cards can be purchased without a spellbook. Season end rewards? In bronze III they are terrible like this steaming pile of c*** (shh it means card ;)

Why defend the Spellbook then?

There is still one feature that is valuable and a hidden feature which is worth half of what you pay for the Spellbook.

The Spellbook says if offers a HIVE account and it certainly does! Those HIVE accounts actually need a huge amount of resource credits in order to create. I was going to try and make one for fun but it needed 8 Trillion Resource Credits which I would have to power up about $500 Hive to make. Making hive accounts for every new player means they much have huge Hive Power saved so they can provide that benefit. Looking at the places that make Hive accounts they are a few free ones but when I checked one was out of resource credits to create. Others are charging $3-$4 for your Hive account.

$10 is certainly a little much to make an account. However, those $4 accounts are bare accounts with no Hive Power to allow you to post. Splinterlands delegates an ongoing $5 in Hive power to its users. So, getting $5 in Hive Power and $4 for Hive account that $10 fee is looking a lot more reasonable. Plus, your supporting the rewards and game for everyone else who plays.

Now I'm not recommending buying a Spellbook if you are just curious about the game. Take a week or two to learn the game the free to play way and make sure you really like it before buying that spellbook. Just understand that the Spellbook does have value and shouldn't be underestimated. (Especially as my account was out of resource credits and I had to hit up a faucet / delegate just to post this)
