Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge! Legionnaire Alvar

Good day everyone! How are you doing? Seeing bitcoin up, hyped everyone for almost a week. Yet, this doesn't stop us from enjoying the game in Splinterlands. Now that the weekly battle challenge is up, I will share to you my entry.

Legionnaire is a member of a legion and legion means a unit of 3,000–6,000 men in the ancient Roman army.

Lore: The Chaos Legionnaires are ruthless warriors and the Chaos Legion's elite fighting force. Alvar Veralyn was conscripted into their ranks at a young age after his family was slain and his world conquered by the Chaos Legion. The harsh conditioning that all conscripts receive nearly broke the child, but in the end, his old, easy way of life was subsumed by the desire for battle and conquest. Alvar dedicated himself to his training, intent on reshaping his mind and his body until he had no equal on the battlefield. Eventually, he rose to the rank of General and now stands as the leader of the Chaos Legionnaires.

As I have gone through the details of this battle challenge, I realized that Legionnaire Alvar is a legendary neutral from the chaos legion pack. From Splintercards it shows that regular foil amounts to $3.72 and $39.2 for gold foil.

Now we will proceed to the battle proper.

ONLY death, earth, and dragon elements are available.

I have observed from the enemy's previous battles, he used Obsidian as his summoner, then I used Immortalis as my defense from Obsidian since my cards are lesser in levels.

SUMMONER

Immortalis reduces all Magic attack damage taken by allies by giving the Void ability on them, making him an excellent potential counter to Obsidian. Then he fights back, reducing all opponent characters' health and equipping his team with the ability to Shatter opposing armor, rendering them vulnerable and aiding in the countering of abilities such as Void Armor.

LEGIONNAIRE ALVAR	Void Armor - Magic attacks hit this Monster's armor before its Health. Giant Killer - Does double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana.	I used Legionairre Alvar as my first tank, he is the best in his position with Immortalis, the magic attack could not penetrate thru his health.
MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN	Taunt - All enemy Monsters target this Monster (if they are able to). Forcefield - This Monster takes only 1 damage from attacks with power 5+	As the usual purpose of taunt, we are directing the attacks of the enemy to this monster giving more time for my first tank to attack the enemy.
SUIDAE SHAMAN	Recharge - This Monster attacks every other round but does 3x damage	His high health could give chance to my team to defeat the enemy as well as by the time he will deliver the 3x damage to the enemy.
GOBLIN PSYCHIC	Healing - Restores a portion of the Monster in the first position's health each round. Affliction - When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.	Where every earth element, Goblin Psychic is always present to prolong the life of the first tank and at the same time giving damage to the enemy and having him a difficulty to heal.
MUSHROOM SNEER	Silence - Reduces the Magic Attack of all enemy Monsters.	I love to use Mushroom Seer even with Obsidian to counter my enemy but I would like to take a risk with Immortalis. I put it in the 2nd to the last position because Goblin Psychic will heal itself if the other tanks will die.
MAGI OF CHAOS	There is no special ability on this card.	I loved Magi of Chaos because of his 2 magic attack and average health.

ROUND 1

My Immortalis' shatter ability was not of use because the enemy did not use any monster with a shield. But what I loved the most was that I was able to use void and decreased health to make my enemy more vulnerable to my attacks, as well as the effect of Mushroom Sneer to make it difficult for them to penetrate my monsters. Gladly that Legionnaire Alvar has a high shield because Grund's melee attacks was somehow aggressive. Thankfully it did not reach to my first tank's health. As what has expected, both of us used Mycelic Slipspawn redirecting all of the monster's attack to each other but the only advantage I have is I have higher health compared to my enemy. My enemy prioritized the healing ability of his team making sure his first tank will replenish his health.

ROUND 2

As the second round started, Mushroom Sneer defeated Mycelic Slipspawn of the enemy. The enemy had a wrong move when he put Woodnymph because with silence, she could not penetrate my monsters due to the void caused by Immortalis. When Suidae Shaman recharged his attack, it defeated the enemy's Grund. Still, my Legionnaire Alvar remained standing.

ROUND 3

The now first tank of enemy Centauri Mage was easily defeated as Magi of chaos was the last touch. Even Sandworm could not defeat my Mycelic Slipspawn with his high melee attack.

ROUND 4

I still have my deck completed and slowly consume my enemy's chances to win. And without further ado, I won the game.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

My strategy worked very well because I still have all of my cards. I may use the summoner Thaddius Brood which is the usual debuff for Obsidian yet I would still use Legionnaire Alvar as my first tank and focus on sneaks and opportunistic monsters.

Yes, other than that it has a shield, his void armor totally protected him from magic attacks and his level 2 made him a giant killer killing high mana cards. I almost use him in every battle I have.
